Department Overview

The Financial Planning Strategy & Solutions Team is responsible for defining and executing against the 5-year strategy and growth aspirations of the TD Wealth Financial Planning business. The team provides central strategy & support which includes ownership of:

  • The 5-year vision and leadership of key strategic initiatives for TD Wealth Financial Planning and Financial Planning Direct

  • Programs and initiatives to drive acquisition, client retention, sales effectiveness and legendary client experiences

  • Business design of compensation, strategic initiatives and product roadmap

  • Thought leadership and continuous delivery of improved end-to-end experiences for both Financial Planners and clients

Job Description

The Manager, FP Investment & Product Management, plays a critical role in shaping and sustaining the long-term direction of the Financial Planning business. The role is accountable for both the strategic evolution of the FP product shelf and the disciplined day-to-day management activities that support investment governance, risk oversight, and exception management across the channel.
By ensuring the product shelf evolves to meet changing client needs, supports the professional practices of Financial Planners, and drives strong business outcomes, this role serves as a key steward of product integrity, competitiveness, and best practices.

Through a balance of forward-looking strategy and operational rigor, the Manager helps ensure the FP platform remains well governed, market relevant, and positioned for continued growth.
Key Responsibilities

  • Helps lead the development of our long-term strategic roadmap and ongoing evolution of the Financial Planning product shelf, ensuring alignment with business objectives and competitive positioning within the mass affluent and emerging mass affluent segments.

  • Own day-to-day product governance and exception management by overseeing the review and adjudication of investment product exception requests from Financial Planners nationwide. Apply deep product expertise and sound judgment to approve or decline requests, and provide well supported recommendations to the VP, Financial Planning for escalations as required.

  • Oversee and continuously refine investment management best practices within the FP channel, including ownership and evolution of the Professional Investment Management metric to ensure it remains relevant, effective, and aligned to business priorities.

  • Serve as a key partner to Compliance, Governance and Control, Investment Management Risk, and related stakeholders to proactively identify, mitigate, and prevent risks related to suitability, concentration, and broader investment product governance matters.

  • Act as a central conduit between Financial Planning and key partners, including the Wealth Investment Office, TD Asset Management, Investment Management Risk, and Wealth Product, ensuring strong alignment and coordinated execution across the enterprise.

  • Ensure there is robust support for key investment products and solutions – and that planners have the training, insights and knowledge required for robust and informed client conversations.

Job Requirements

  • Prior experience in the wealth management or asset management industry

  • Expert knowledge of investment products and solutions, and the role they play within advice-based channels

  • Solid understanding of investment best-practices and how to support advisors/planners in building scalable practices that support efficient growth and risk management

  • Experience leading and reporting on complex projects with multiple stakeholders

  • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities, including experience with data analysis, interpretation, and preparing reports or presentations

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to develop materials for planners and leaders – and comfort presenting to large audiences

  • Ability to take initiative, manage ambiguity, processes, and governance frameworks

  • Commercial awareness and understanding of how TD generates value

  • A post-secondary degree is required

  • The CFA designation and/or other investment management certifications are considered assets
