NLHS is providing educational opportunities to become trained as Combined Lab & X-Ray Technologists, through the College of the North Atlantic. To apply for this program you must currently have a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and be a certified RT. This program is 18 months in duration and is offered primarily through distance education; however there is a 7 week in class component and a 16 week clinical placement. This program will begin in September 2026.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Combined Lab/Diagnostic Imaging professionals are responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory and diagnostic imaging tests according to written procedures in the clinical laboratory. The technologist provides accurate, precise and timely test results to medical staff to aid in the diagnosis, monitoring, treatment and prevention of disease in patients/residents. This position is responsible for the maintenance and control of technical equipment to provide precise and timely results to physicians to aid in diagnosis and treatment of patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Entrance Requirements:

1.Graduation from an accredited program in Medical Laboratory Technology.

2.MLT Certification and membership with the CSMLS.

3.Letter of sponsorship from NLHS guaranteeing that the health authority will assign a clinical preceptor (R.T. Radiography) to act as a mentor during the first two semesters of the program and as supervisor of clinical training in the fourth semester.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Competitive Salary: Earn $32.16 to $40.20 per hour (CG27), plus great health, dental, and pension plan benefits.

Shiftwork: 70 bi-weekly hours; 12- and 24-hour shifts with varying days, nights, weekends, on-call, and standby hours.

Financial Support:

Financial support for this program is available to help offset the costs of registration, tuition, books, and fees. NLHS will provide a bursary of up to $5,000, contingent on acceptance into the College of the North Atlantic’s program and continued successful standing throughout the 18 month training program. The successful applicant will be required to submit copies of their grade reports. A two-year service commitment, which will begin once the employee is successful in obtaining a Combined Lab & X-Ray Technologist position, is required.
