Job Summary:
This position reports to the Regional Manager of Rehabilitative Services with clinical supervision from the Clinical Lead of Speech-Language Pathology. As an integral part of the health care team, the Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA) provides quality, safe, and appropriate patient-centered care by supporting and assisting the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). Direct patient care will be provided under the supervision of the SLP in one-to-one and group settings for teaching/education or intervention purposes.
The CDA's focus is on preventative and therapeutic services aimed at maximizing the individual's functional communication abilities, preventing or alleviating disability, maintaining communication, and preventing undue deterioration in communication abilities.
CDAs work in partnership with clients, caregivers, and other team members as part of an interdisciplinary care team to identify, achieve, and maintain optimal communication outcomes.
The CDA will coordinate, prioritize, and schedule assigned activities.
The CDA will work with the therapist in planning, development, preparation, and implementation of programming.
The CDA will provide support and assistance via indirect activities such as preparation and maintenance of treatment areas and equipment.
Under direction of the SLP, the CDA directs an individual's participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. The CDA monitors participants' progress and behaviors during programs and interventions and shares this information with the supervising SLP.
This position works independently on a day-to-day basis based on tasks assigned by the supervising SLP. The CDA will support both inpatient and outpatient related tasks and activities.

Job Demands:

- Lifting or physical strength (e.g., lifting while carrying boxes of resources/materials, flip charts, and audio-visual equipment for group work activities).
- Computer work
- Work in awkward or cramped body positions (occasional).
- Strength and endurance and the use of gross motor skills (e.g. ability to push/pull clients over 50lbs who are in wheelchair).
- Sitting/standing to provide programming to clients.
- Higher than normal level of attentiveness. Visual and Auditory concentration is required.
- Alertness when completing repetitive work for speech and language programming with clients.

Job Qualifications:
Successful completion of an approved/recognized Communication Disorders Assistant CDA diploma program or equivalent, post undergraduate degree.
Demonstrated ability to follow ethical guidelines, function within scope of practice responsibilities, and comply with legal requirements.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to meet patient goals and overall delivery of clinical services.
A satisfactory record of attendance and work performance is required.
