Job Description

Senior Technical Scrum Master – Insurance:

As Scrum Master, you'll drive a squad through a critical discovery and design phase, working at the intersection of business transformation and technical architecture. You'll shepherd a team navigating multiple data sources, competing priorities, and challenging technical decisions—all under board-level scrutiny. This is your opportunity to make immediate, visible impact on enterprise-wide financial operations while building a world-class agile practice in a high-stakes environment.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

• Facilitate agile ceremonies & maintain sprint discipline – Plan & run daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and reviews; shield team from scope creep; enforce Definition of Done; track velocity and predictability to set realistic timelines for executives.

• Manage dependencies, blockers & escalations – Map inter-squad dependencies across multiple stakeholders' teams; identify risks early (data access delays, stakeholder conflicts, technical constraints); escalate to program leadership; drive timely resolution to keep momentum.

• Drive transparency & stakeholder communication – Maintain sprint burndown, confluence documentation, and Jira hygiene; communicate sprint status/risks weekly to executives; translate technical progress into business impact language; ensure all decisions are documented and visible.

• Coach team on agile practices & continuous improvement – Mentor squad on user story writing, estimation, and retrospective insights; facilitate refinement sessions; identify process bottlenecks; drive adoption of agile tools and practices; build psychological safety for honest conversations.

• Manage program-level administrative work – Maintain feature/epic/story hierarchy in Jira; track OKR progress; update stakeholder dashboards; prepare PI planning materials; facilitate design authority & architecture review sessions.

• Act as servant leader & team advocate – Remove impediments preventing team productivity; push back on unrealistic asks from business; advocate for team capacity/wellbeing; model agile values (transparency, collaboration, customer focus).

• Enable data-driven decision-making – Track metrics (cycle time, defect rates, manual effort saved, data quality improvements); present findings to executives; help team understand what's working/not working and adapt accordingly.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must have:

  • 5+ years Scrum Master / Agile Coaching experience in enterprise or mid-market environments, preferably in large-scale program delivery (multiple concurrent squads, complex dependencies, board-level visibility).
  • Technical literacy & financial services context – Solid understanding of data architecture, ETL/ELT, IFRS accounting standards (OR willingness to learn quickly); ability to understand technical constraints and ask smart questions; familiarity with financial services regulatory environment a plus.
  • Deep expertise in Insurance Data Lake and EODC (or equivalent complex financial data systems)
  • Proven track record with high-volume, real-time/batch data processing (GGY AXIS, Dataiku, or comparable tools)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data Lakehouse platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, or Azure Synapse)
  • Advanced SQL proficiency and ETL/ELT pipeline design (Informatica, Talend, custom frameworks)

Nice-to-have:

  • IFRS 17 / insurance accounting knowledge is a significant advantage
  • Experience leading cross-functional data architecture initiatives in regulated environments (Financial Services, Insurance)
