The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Procurement Specialist to join our Procurement team in Sudbury Operations. This is a permanent position covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers.
The Procurement Specialist overseas and executes complex sourcing activities for goods, equipment, and services, ensuring optimal total cost of ownership and operational efficiency. The role uses strong cost analysis and data driven, commercial evaluations to support strategic procurement initiatives. It involves monitoring market trends, supplier performance, and risks to improve procurement outcomes. The Specialist collaborates with cross functional teams and suppliers to drive contract negotiations, vendor management, and process optimization. An adaptable, focused mindset is essential to advancing innovative procurement strategies aligned with business goals.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Demonstrate strong independent judgment, communication, safety focus, and adaptability while mentoring team members and delivering effective presentations to stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail in all tasks. Streamline processes to improve planning and reporting accuracy.
- Collaborate cross?functionally to resolve supply issues, support PMP processes, develop new suppliers/products, coordinate site visits, and drive process optimization.
- Conduct complex negotiations to secure favorable terms, minimize risks, and generate the best value for the Company. Advance knowledge around contracting types such as Unit Price, Lump sum, Cost Reimbursable and Time & Material.
- Analyze data, market trends, and supplier capabilities to inform category strategies, long?term contracting plans, and operational cost?reduction initiatives.
- Oversee contract administration, audit compliance, emergency procurement, and commercial governance processes to maintain schedule, budget, and policy adherence.
- Manage supplier relationships and contract performance, addressing quality, OTIF, pricing, risks, claims, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Lead end?to?end sourcing activities, including RFPs, commercial evaluations, negotiations, and contract drafting, ensuring compliance, value creation, and alignment with sourcing strategies.

About You
Education:
- Undergraduate Degree required in Business or related discipline (Commerce, Engineering, Legal)
- Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) and/or certification through Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) are desirable.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of procurement experience or in other related roles such as Buyers, Contract Administrators, Category Managers, Procurement Officers, etc.
- Procurement experience in a mining related organization is desirable.
Skills:
- Knowledge of Procurement Model, RFP Process, governance models, construction lien act, international freight terms and knowledge of standard legal contract requirements.
- Excellent communication skills / demonstrated skilled negotiator / demonstrated collaboration skills / ability to influence.
- Demonstrated analytical skills (ex. Total cost of ownership + root cause identification) / interprets market, customer, and business variables / makes process recommendations.
- Project leadership experience, negotiation skills, inventory and warehousing experience, proficient knowledge of contract law, sales tax, customs procedures as well as duty and transportation options are an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook), Access, Adobe, working knowledge of procurement systems including Ellipse, Oracle and SAP.

Minimum Starting Salary: $94,059.05
