The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Mines Technologist to join our Stobie Open Pit team in Sudbury. This is a permanent position covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local 2020-05 United Steelworkers.
The Senior Mines Technologist is accountable to provide survey spatial guidance services to support the mining plan at the Stobie Open Pit Mining Project. They are required to provide survey guidance to the operations and technical services team, alongside reporting and safety contributions.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Adhere to the departmental Safety Plan aligned with the Stobie Open Pit Safety Plan.
- Deliver accurate, timely surveying services, including site surveys and clear set?outs aligned with contract drawings.
- Select and apply the most effective surveying equipment and methods for each task.
- Lead end?of?month processes, ensuring accurate validation of final surfaces, voids, and reported figures.
- Produce timely and accurate as?built survey reports, including QA of 3D sketches and verification of completed structures.
- Provide survey compliance reports to stakeholders, highlighting risks, opportunities, and key operational developments.
- Allocate survey work effectively, maintain survey control networks, support process improvements, and manage spatial data use and integration.

About You
Education:
- Minimum 2 Year Community College Diploma in an appropriate mining discipline or Post-Secondary equivalent.
Experience:
- More than five years, up to ten years of progressive experience in surveying and ground control. Demonstrated experience with Machine Guidance Systems (Desirable).
- Knowledge of mining, milling and refining processes, competence in surveying, and ground control, competence and general knowledge about drilling and blasting.
Skills:
- Proficient in Vulcan and/or Deswik, Proficient in relevant survey software including ArcGIS, iSite Studio and Proficient in MS Office.
