Job Description
What is the opportunity?
The Senior Manager – Strategic risk analysis plays a critical role in strengthening RBC's Financial Crime (FC) risk management program by conducting detailed topical analysis into specific financial crime threats and higher risk industries and sectors, and of RBC's exposure to them. This involves consultations with stakeholders both internal and external, extensive self-led research, control/program assessments, coordination of work, and concise report writing to communicate complex topics in simple terms.
The Senior Manager directly supports continuous development of the financial crimes' program by driving risk-based decision-making and ongoing enhancements to key policies and controls.
The Senior Manager may also serve as RBC's strategic liaison to federal law enforcement, intelligence, and regulatory agencies coordinating intelligence-sharing protocols, representing RBC at government forums, and helping to shape Canada's national financial crime response strategy.
What will you do?
- Conduct deep-dive analyses of high-risk industries/sectors (e.g. real estate, cryptocurrency, trade finance, cash-intensive businesses) and specific financial crime threats (sanctions evasion, fraud schemes, trade based money laundering), including risk exposure, controls, and regulatory trends.
- Deliver risk papers with recommendations for enhanced monitoring, onboarding standards, control measures, and risk treatments tailor to specific industries and emerging threats, driving meaningful change by translating complex analyses into clear actions.
- Drive program enhancements that reduce residual risk and improve compliance controls.
- Leverage various tools for analysis (e.g. transactional data, customer behavior, geopolitical trends) and to provide data-driven insights (e.g., develop dashboards/KPIs to track risk metrics and performance).
- Lead and/or provide subject-matter-expertise for the development and maintenance of FC policy documents (e.g., Enterprise Standards, KYC/CDD guidelines).
- Partner closely with and stakeholders to integrate recommendations into FC programs and support digital transformation initiatives (e.g., AI/ML tool implementation) and cross organizational collaboration.
- Other opportunities may include serving as primary strategic liaison between RBC and federal government agencies (e.g. RCMP, FINTRAC, CBSA, CSIS) on financial crime matters to coordinate intelligence sharing protocols, participate in government working groups, and represent RBC's capabilities and priorities at law enforcement forums.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Post-secondary education or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in risk analysis, compliance, or financial crime management within financial services
- Strong understanding of Financial Crimes (ML, TF, B&C, Sanctions) concepts, regulatory requirements, and controls.
- Strong and recent experience with research and reporting writing, ideally in a financial crimes capacity.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and prioritize competing demands.
- Influencing skills to lead initiatives without formal authority and drive consensus across teams.
Nice-to-have
- Experience coordinating or working within intelligence-sharing protocols, security requirements, and inter-agency collaboration frameworks.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) designation or other related certifications.
- Graduate degree (MBA or relevant subject matter area).
- Project management experience and/or certifications.
