Who we are:
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) is seeking an individual to join the Teacher Certification team as a Registrar. The teaching profession is regulated across Canada, including in New Brunswick. To teach in New Brunswick public schools, you must hold an interim or permanent teacher's certificate.

The employees of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) develop programs and offer services that support parents and educators and encourage learners from birth to 20 years old, to achieve lasting and transferable learning that will serve them throughout their lives.

What you will do:
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Policy, Strategic Planning and Project Management Office, the successful candidate will be responsible for the evaluation of academic and professional backgrounds of applicants, including the out-of-province and country, for teacher certification in New Brunswick.

As a key member of our team, you will champion an exceptional client experience while upholding New Brunswick's high standards for teacher certification. Your expertise will help ensure fair, transparent, and client-centered evaluations of teaching experience, professional learning, and university coursework for certification upgrades and leadership credentials. Key responsibilities of the position are:

  • Assess applications for teacher certification, including approval of university courses for upgrading purposes, salary requests, etc.
  • Guide applicants through the various processes; respond to client needs
  • Review conduct files
  • Advise senior leaders and Minister on teacher certification issues
  • Participate on provincial and national committees
  • Act as a liaison with external stakeholders such as universities, school districts, Association des enseignants et enseignantes du Nouveau-Brunswick, New Brunswick Teacher's Association, and New Brunswick Teachers Federation by providing information, advice and recommendations on programs, regulatory issues, policies
  • Responsible for the management of all aspects of the Office of Teacher Certification and the direct supervision and management of professional and support staff

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, education or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience including two (2) years in a supervisory or management role; or
  • Master's degree in business administration, education or in a related field, with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience and (1) year in a supervisory or management role
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Salary:
Education Program Officer 3: $70,512 - $85-358 annually

Work environment:

  • Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30
