Job Summary
This is an advanced, professional and leadership position within Physiotherapy Services of the Regional Surgery Program. The incumbent is responsible for the development and leadership in the provision of physiotherapy services primarily to an inpatient orthopedic population; this includes post operative total joint replacements, post trauma (fractures) and other surgical conditions requiring inpatient admission. This position may also provide PT services to orthopedic clients off-service, peri-operative same day surgery as well as other site coverage may be required. Early mobilization, appropriate exercise prescription and discharge planning are components of this position.
In addition to the clinical role, the incumbent participates in quality improvement activities within the Surgery Program. Committee memberships, as well as participation in the direction, planning and implementation of evidence-based physiotherapy practice will be required. The incumbent is responsible for consulting and advising other physiotherapy staff assigned to the program, providing direction and leadership as required. The incumbent is a resource for PTs in the area of inpatient orthopedics and clinical frailty.
The incumbent is an integral member of the health care team and is responsible for timely communication and documentation of relevant patient information. The incumbent is also responsible for participation in activities of the Program and the profession within NLHS that contribute to a Healthy Workplace and a safe environment for patients and staff. Weekend coverage and/or on-call service is required on a rotational basis. Clinical mentorship and consultation are provided by the Physiotherapist III of this site.
Supervision and delegation to Physiotherapy Support Workers is an expectation. The PT will be responsible to precept physiotherapy students and offer other clinical education experiences to students within Eastern Urban Zone, NLHS. This position reports to the Division Manager, Orthopedic Surgery, SCMH and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Physiotherapy for professional integrity and practice issues.

Job QualificationsGraduation from an approved/recognized School of Physiotherapy Program is required.
Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapist (NLCP) is required.
A minimum of three years' experience within the last five working as a Clinical Physiotherapist working with an adult orthopedic population is required.
Successful completion of a post entry education course in Orthopedic Level I (or equivalent as determined by the employer)
Demonstrated effective communication, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their families in a one to one and/or group environment.
Ability to direct, supervise and mentor students and physiotherapy support workers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an inter-professional team and be able to prioritize caseload and patient needs.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
