DUTIES
The Senior Development Officer, Planned Giving, is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and implementation of Memorial University's Planned Giving program. This position plays a critical role in generating long-term philanthropic support for the institution and provides direct supervision to the Development Officer, Planned Giving. Work involves developing and executing strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through bequests, life insurance gifts, estate commitments, endowed funds, and other legacy giving vehicles. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors; supervise and guide the work of the planned giving team; and collaborate with academic units, alumni engagement, and development colleagues to integrate planned giving into broader fundraising initiatives.
The Senior Development Officer will provide specialized support to donors, families, executors, and professional advisors by guiding them through the administrative steps required for Memorial to receive planned gifts, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and timely follow-through. Additional responsibilities include administering estate gifts with sensitivity and care; preparing donor proposals, reports, and briefing materials; developing marketing and outreach initiatives to promote legacy giving; maintaining accurate information in the CRM system; and representing the University at donor meetings, events, and community functions. Travel within Canada and occasional evening or weekend work will be required. Key responsibilities include:
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors considering bequests, life insurance gifts, estate commitments, endowed funds, and other legacy giving vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (5-7 years) in fundraising, planned giving, financial planning, estate administration, or a related field; a university degree in a relevant discipline (four-year program) is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will have strong relationship-building abilities and experience working with donors or clients in complex, trust-based environments; knowledge of planned giving strategies, tax benefits, and related legal or financial considerations, with the ability to maintain a basic understanding of federal and provincial estate, trust, and tax laws as they relate to charitable giving; and excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and compassionately. The ability to exercise a high level of discretion, judgment, and ethical behaviour when working with confidential information is essential, as is familiarity with CRM systems and experience working within a multi-stakeholder environment.
SALARY $67,414 - $91,929 per annum (Management and Professional)
Plus market differential of $18,357
