DUTIES
Reporting to the Manager, Pension Administration, the Pension Specialist will act as a subject matter expert for many areas of pension administration processing for the MUN Pension Plan, conducting analysis of pension plan data within a regulatory environment to determine pension entitlements. Duties include completing complex pension calculations on termination, retirement, and death of plan members or their beneficiaries while upholding high-quality service delivery standards in our client-focused environment; communicating about these life events in easy-to-understand language to assist members and beneficiaries in their decision-making; resolving complex and atypical questions and issues in accordance with federal, provincial, and plan regulations; assisting with the annual Pension Adjustment process and integration into the Banner Enterprise Resource Management system; conducting audits of pension records to ensure accuracy; performing pension projections for employees considering retirement and communicating results; completing pension service buybacks and transfers to and from other pension plans and Past Service Pension Adjustment reporting; working within multiple human resources and pensions data systems and using the Microsoft Office suite; liaising with internal and external stakeholders on pension plan administration; providing explanations of pension plan provisions; assisting with the development of effective and efficient workflows and administrative best practices; and performing other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in pension administration and knowledge of principles and procedures related to pension administration, including experience working with and interpreting pension laws, transfer agreements, and collective agreements; completion of an undergraduate degree in business administration or a related area is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills; experience communicating sensitive and complex information; demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and mathematical skills; the ability to meet deadlines and balance multiple priorities; as well as the ability to work independently. Experience learning and working within multiple software systems, including HRIS, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite, is essential, as are excellent judgement, accuracy, and attention to detail. A Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation is an asset.
SALARY $61,099 - $71,679 per annum (Non-Bargaining)
