Who you are

You have a worked a minimum of 3 to 5 years in quality improvement, patient safety or healthcare operations and have experience in leading quality improvement projects and facilitating multidisciplinary teams. You have a knowledge of Accreditation Canada standard, critical incident analysis and LEAN Six Sigma process improvement tools.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related discipline required.
  • Certification in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, CPSO) is an asset.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic healthcare environment.

What you will do

The Quality & Patient Safety Consultant supports the organization's commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. This role provides expertise in quality improvement (QI) and safe patient care, by partnering with clinical and operational leaders to identify opportunities, analyze performance data, and facilitate improvement initiatives. Operating from a regional perspective, consultants lead and support the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives that promote a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous learning across all care settings. Consultants are responsible for assisting with and implementing quality and patient safety practices and initiatives within their assigned geographic area

Key Responsibilities

Quality and Patient Safety (QPS)Consultants lead Horizon's healthcare teams to integrate and sustain a culture of continuous quality improvement and safe patient care.

  • Champion the development and sustainability of a strong [organizational] quality, patient safety culture by leveraging professional knowledge, quality improvement expertise, and leadership to influence safe practices, empower teams, and foster continuous learning across all levels of the organization.

Quality Improvement and Performance Measurement

  • Facilitate and lead quality improvement projects using recognized QI methodologies (e.g., PDSA, Lean Six Sigma).
  • Analyze and interpret performance data to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support teams in developing performance indicators, dashboards, and audit tools.

Patient Safety

  • Promote and advance a culture of patient safety and just culture.
  • Facilitate patient safety event reviews, including root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and proactive risk assessments.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of organizational and local facility patient safety initiatives.

Education and Capacity Building

  • Deliver education and orientation related to quality, safety, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Educate and support teams in QI and patient safety tools, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Support the dissemination of lessons learned and safe, quality patient care practices across programs, departments and sites.

Accreditation and Compliance

  • Support teams in preparing for accreditation and regulatory reviews.
  • Act as key stakeholders in policy and procedure reviews to ensure alignment with standards and patient safety best practices.
  • Monitor compliance with safety and quality standards and facilitate continuous readiness activities.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Build strong partnerships with clinical, operational, and administrative teams.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary meetings and working groups to address identified quality and safety issues.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and summaries for committees, leadership, and governing bodies.

This position supports regional programs/departments, which involves collaboration with programs, departments, and healthcare sites across Horizon. The Consultant will also provide targeted support to Saint John area teams, which may involve on-site presence for education, facilitation, or evaluation as needed.

Travel within the region is expected to support regional specific initiatives A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation are required.
