Jump Recruitment, on behalf of our client, Newfound Mechanical, is seeking to fill a Plumbing Foreperson to join their team in Liverpool, NS.
Job Summary:
The Plumbing Foreperson is a leader responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of plumbing/piping journeypersons, apprentices, and labourers on the job site. They ensure plumbing systems and heating systems are installed, maintained, and repaired safely, efficiently, and in compliance with building codes, project plans and specifications. The Plumbing Foreperson plays a vital role in maintaining productivity, resolving field-level issues, supporting site coordination efforts, and upholding quality and safety standards throughout the duration of the project.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Crew Leadership and Supervision- Lead, direct, and motivate a team of plumbing journeypersons, plumbing apprentices, and labourers.
- Assign daily tasks based on project needs and crew strengths.
- Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced workers.
- Ensure that all workers adhere to scheduled start and end times, as well as designated break periods.
 
- Project Execution- Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to plan plumbing and heating system installations.
- Oversee all phases of plumbing system installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ensure that all systems are installed according to design plans, specifications, building codes, and safety regulations.
 
- Quality Control- Perform inspections of completed systems to ensure quality standards and compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and project plans and specifications.
- Identify and resolve any issues related to workmanship, code compliance, or safety.
- Help coordinate inspections, and document testing and work progress.
- Work with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, and Superintendent to correct any deficiencies.
 
- Scheduling and Coordination- Coordinate with other trades (e.g., HVAC, electrical, general contractor) to avoid conflicts and maintain project flow.
- Plan daily and weekly activities to meet project deadlines.
- Schedule material deliveries, inspections, and work phases to avoid delays.
 
- Safety Enforcement- Enforce strict safety protocols and regulations.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks with the crew.
- Immediately address and report any unsafe working conditions.
 
- Material and Tool Management- Order and manage materials, tools, and equipment required for tasks.
- Track inventory and ensure proper storage and maintenance of materials and tools.
- Minimize waste by ensuring proper material usage.
 
- Communication and Reporting- Act as the main point of contact between field crews and upper management (Superintendents, Project Managers).
- Report progress, challenges, manpower needs, and schedule updates to supervisors regularly.
- Maintain job logs, daily reports, and any necessary documentation.
 
- Problem Solving- Identify potential field issues early and offer effective solutions.
- Adjust crew activities and schedules as needed to stay on track.
 
Qualifications:
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of plumbing and heating systems, installations, and code requirements.
- Strong ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to troubleshoot systems and technical challenges.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Experience using construction software such as Build-ops or Procore is an asset.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in various environments.
