LOCATION: Operating off the Coast of Newfoundland (NL), Prince Edward Island (PEI), Nova Scotia (NS) and New Brunswick (NB)

TYPE OF VESSEL: Inter Viking; Live Fish Carrier

ROTATION: 35/35

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contract, Full Time

CONTRACT: Short Term Contract; Estimate One (1) Year

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: Two (2)

JOB SUMMARY: Chief Officer is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the ship in co-operation with the Master. He/She is also responsible for the up-to-date keeping of deck maintenance reports.

PRE-REQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum 1 Year of experience working on a wellboat (live fish carrier)
  • STCW II/2,3 or STCW Approved D3 with Norwegian Endorsement or STCW Equivalent
  • Good understanding of live fish handling
  • STCW Basic Safety (STCW VI-1.1, VI-1.2, VI-1.3, VI-1.4)
  • STCW Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW VI-3)
  • STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (STCW VI/2-1)
  • STCW Marine Medical Care (STCW VI-4.1, VI-4.2)
  • Seafarer Medical (STCW)
  • Designated Security Duties (STCW VI-6.4)
  • Fish Welfare Course
  • Cyber Security Awareness (DNV certified)
  • GOC Radio Certificate
  • NIS Course (Norwegian Regulation)
  • Viking S30 Liferaft Course
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Must pass Physical, Drug Screen and Background/Pre-Employment Screening Checks

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as Master's substitute and has his authority in his absence
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the ship in co-operation with the Master
  • Responsible for loading and discharging of the ship in co-operation with the Master
  • Responsible for implementing the procedures of the Ballast Water Management Plan
  • Shall carry out voyage planning and stability calculation when required
  • Responsible for update of charts and publications on board
  • Shall maintain the radio logbook and inspection/test of the GMDSS equipment
  • Shall carry out inspection of all safety equipment on board
  • Responsible for the maintenance and control of loose lifting gear and cargo securing equipment
  • Responsible for control and administration of substances hazardous to health
  • Shall take part in tasks specified in the Emergency plan
  • Responsible for the administration and arrangement of drills
  • Shall see to it that the crew performs all tasks on deck in a satisfactory manner
  • Shall keep own record of rest hours
  • Promote and encourage others in safe work practices and use of PPE onboard
  • Perform other duties as assigned
