LOCATION: Operating off the Coast of Newfoundland (NL), Prince Edward Island (PEI), Nova Scotia (NS) and New Brunswick (NB)

TYPE OF VESSEL: Inter Viking; Live Fish Carrier

ROTATION: 35/35

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Contract, Full Time

CONTRACT: Short Term Contract; Estimate One (1) Year

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: Two (2)

JOB SUMMARY: Overall responsible for the entire vessel and operations. Master is the company's onboard representative. He/She will manage the vessel and all operations through department leaders to ensure that all operations are conducted in a safe manner according to plans and procedures. He/She is also responsible for the up to date keeping of deck maintenance reports.

PRE-REQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum 1 Year of experience working on a wellboat (live fish carrier)
  • STCW II/2 or STCW Approved D1 with Norwegian Endorsement or STCW Equivalent
  • Good understanding of live fish handling
  • STCW Basic Safety (STCW VI-1.1, VI-1.2, VI-1.3, VI-1.4)
  • STCW Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW VI-3)
  • STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (STCW VI/2-1)
  • STCW Marine Medical Care (STCW VI-4.1, VI-4.2)
  • Seafarer Medical (STCW)
  • Designated Security Duties (STCW VI-6.4)
  • Ship Security Officer (STCW VI/5 (1-4))
  • Fish Welfare Course
  • Cyber Security Awareness (DNV certified)
  • GOC Radio License
  • NIS Course (Norwegian regulation)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Must pass Physical, Drug Screen and Background/Pre-Employment Screening Checks

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the ship's seaworthiness, stability calculations and voyage planning
  • Responsible for the crew's qualifications and training on board
  • Responsible for safe navigation and good seamanship
  • Responsible that all of the ship's certificates are valid at any time
  • Responsible for the validity of the crew's certificates, course documentation and health certificates and that the crew member is fit for the job he is signed on for
  • Shall keep himself and crew updated on any changes and updates in the TMS
  • Must be aware of captains overriding authority, ref. ISM 5.2
  • Responsible for weekly inspections of cleanliness and order on board (MLC 2006)
  • Responsible for security when bunkering and the protection of the environment
  • Shall take part in tasks specified in the Emergency plan
  • Responsible that charts, books and description of coast are updated
  • Responsible that the Radio logbook is maintained and inspection/test of the GMDSS equipment is performed
  • Responsible for the safe handling of the cargo according to applicable rules, regulations and special requirements from authorities or the customer according to the charter party
  • Shall prepare and file (hand over command) scheme for the relieving captain
  • Shall keep own list of rest hours, when regular sea watch keeping
  • Promote and encourage others in safe work practices and use of PPE onboard
  • Responsible for personnel matters on board, i.e, crew assessments, employee evaluations, conflict management, etc
  • Perform other duties as assigned
