We invite you to join the Sport and Recreation Branch team at the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture! The Sport and Recreation Branch works collaboratively with national, provincial and community stakeholders and partners to support, promote, and advance sport, physical activity, and recreation in the province.

The work we do has a positive impact on our communities and helps improve the everyday lives of New Brunswickers.

What you will do:
Reporting to the Sport and Recreation Branch Regional Manager for Community Development, the successful candidates will be responsible for identifying and developing community-based partnerships and opportunities in sport, physical activity and recreation. The work involves collaboration with diverse partners and organizations including not for profit organizations, local governments and other regional and community-based groups.

The duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Providing guidance, support and expertise to local and regional organizations, municipalities, and communities in the development of policies, initiatives, and plans within a specific geographical area of the province
  • Developing and maintaining working relationships with a diverse group of partners and stakeholders including relevant government and non-government agencies, connecting organizations with appropriate resources and contacts and providing information about government programs
  • Employing proactive community development techniques to assist partners in assessing their needs and formulating appropriate action in a changing environment
  • Providing community and regional clients with information and advice on new and existing government programs, building and maintaining networks and partnerships
  • Raising awareness of the importance of safe, quality opportunities that contribute to overall individual and community wellbeing
  • Increasing awareness and support opportunities in urban and rural settings, including opportunities that identify and remove barriers and improve access to sport, physical activity and recreation opportunities
  • Promoting, administering, evaluating, recommending, and coordinating funding disbursements to user groups on behalf of the Department
  • Performing other related duties as required

Who you are:
You will support capacity building, grant management, knowledge and information dissemination, evaluation and networking throughout the geographic region. You are a champion of equity, diversity, inclusion with an understanding of the geographic area, community development principles and community capacity building. You are experienced and knowledgeable at working within sport, physical activity and/or recreation at the community, regional or provincial levels. You have knowledge in funding not for profit organizations and experience collaborating and building strong partnerships. You can use information technology and online applications to process, manage and share data and information. You have strong interpersonal, communication skills and are self-motivated and work well as a teammember and independently.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Required Competencies:

  • A University degree in a related field such as Recreation, Kinesiology, Sport Management, Community Development and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Relationship building and organizational skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Nice to have:

  • Possession or in process of possessing a master's degree in a related field
  • Possession or in process of possessing community development training or certification

Wage:
$2,774 to $3,402 bi-weekly based on 36.25 hours per week

Work environment:

  • Office, hybrid or remote location within the geographic location of work: Western Valley / Capital Region OR Fundy / Southwest Region

  • Frequent travel in the region is required along with periodic travel throughout the province with possible variable hours
