The Opportunity

Company & Department: Emera Inc. Finance

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Closing Date: November 18, 2025

We are currently looking for a Corporate Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting Team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Senior Corporate Accountant, the Corporate Accountant will play a key role in the budgeting, forecasting, and monthly close process of Emera's corporate entities.


Key elements of this role include:
  • Leading the preparation of the annual budget, semi-annual forecasts, and annual long-term forecast;
  • Preparing monthly journal entries and detailed account reconciliations and analysis;
  • Assisting with the preparation of the Company's quarterly and annual external Financial Statements, Notes and Management Discussion and Analysis, as well as other quarterly deliverables;
  • Assisting internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits;
  • Responsibility for internal control over financial reporting in accordance with Emera's SOX program;
  • Collaborating with other Emera departments to provide financial information; and
  • Preparing other ad hoc analysis and reports as required.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • A bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Commerce with 2+ years of related work experience and have completed or are working toward a professional accounting designation (CPA);
  • Experience in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting;
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Excel;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various departments and comfortable presenting information to senior management;
  • Knowledge of the gas and utility industry would be considered an asset but is not required;
  • Detail oriented and possesses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment, with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines;
  • Have a solid business acumen, is customer focused and innovative, with the ability to identify and implement improved processes.
