The opportunity:
Reporting to the Chief Strategy & Growth Officer, the VP, Corporate Strategy will play a pivotal role in shaping Emera's long-term growth vision. Partnering closely with stakeholders, senior executives, and the Board, the VP will define strategic priorities, drive execution, and identify key market, industry, and economic opportunities to create sustainable business value while managing risk. The successful candidate will provide critical insight into emerging strategic issues and contribute to business planning initiatives that position Emera for continued growth and success. .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive conceptual and innovative thinking to both formulate and implement the company's overall strategy, ensuring that the requirements for sustained earnings growth are addressed. Maintain a practical, agile, and results-oriented approach throughout all phases of strategic development and execution.
  • Act as a collaborative leader by fostering clarity and support for the overarching strategy across all affiliates. Play an active role in evaluating and supporting new growth opportunities, ensuring alignment and engagement across the organization.
  • Oversee the internal strategy development process by continuously tracking and assessing progress towards established targets. Chair regular executive strategy meetings and ensure the Board is kept informed of any industry developments that may impact the corporate strategy. Maintain a disciplined approach to tracking key signposts and actively engage with affiliate companies regarding their strategic direction.
  • Provide oversight and coordination for Emera's annual Board strategy meetings, ensuring these sessions are effectively structured to support strategic decision-making.
  • Support and participate in strategy sessions with operating companies, contributing expertise and insight to the development of their business strategies.
  • Play an integral role in shaping and advancing the company's overall growth strategy, ensuring alignment with long-term objectives.
  • Collaborate with key corporate teams including Communications, Human Resources, Finance, Investor Relations, Legal, and Sustainability—to monitor market and industry trends, establish strategic commitments, and achieve corporate objectives.

  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in leading Corporate Strategy within a multi-national organization. With more than ten years of relevant leadership experience, they will have developed the skills necessary to drive strategic initiatives at an international scale.
  • A graduate degree in Business, or an equivalent combination of other relevant education and experience, is required. The candidate must possess exceptional written and verbal communication abilities and be comfortable presenting to executive leadership, Board members, capital markets, and other key stakeholders.
  • The role calls for a strategic thinker who can pay close attention to detail while influencing decision-making processes. The successful candidate will have a high level of collaborative and influencing skills, enabling them to balance the needs of diverse stakeholders within a large organization.
  • Superior creative problem-solving abilities, as well as strong quantitative and analytical skills, are essential for success in this position.
