POSITION PHILOSOPHY
Under the direction or supervision of the Maintenance Manager the Maintenance Worker is responsible for creating a human habitat and providing care and services to meet the needs of the elders in the cottages. The Maintenance Worker is committed to alleviating the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom through facilitating small unexpected pleasures in the day to day life of the residents, and by surrendering institutional routines. POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the maintenance worker is part of the Rosecrest Communities team. The Maintenance Worker performs preventive maintenance duties, grounds maintenance and responds to critical facilities maintenance problems as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
Standards/Scope of practice
1. Works in a safe manner and uses due diligence in the performance of duties.
2. Collaborates with the Maintenance Manager to identify preventive maintenance responsibilities. Carries out preventive maintenance responsibilities and informs the Maintenance Manager of any problems that develop.
3. Responds to new preventive maintenance requirements as directed by the Maintenance Manager and keeps them informed of any problems encountered.
4. Responds to maintenance requests in a professional manner and keeps the Maintenance Manager informed of any problems.
5. Keeps preventive maintenance and other maintenance records and documents in order and up to date.
6. Performs grounds maintenance and snow removal as required.
7. Demonstrates the physical ability to perform all aspects of the position description.
8. Utilizes safe work practices and personal protective equipment supplied by the employer and outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
9. Forms part of the "on call" Emergency Response team to handle emergency maintenance items, alarm calls and as a contact/liaison between maintenance and contractors to resolve problems.
10. Completes inspections as per licensing requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Grade XII or equivalent
2. Level 1 certificate in water treatment
3. Level l certificate in wastewater treatment
4. WHMIS training and First Aid course
5. General safety orientation
6. Training and experience in working with a wide variety of tools considered an asset
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
1. Works with toxic and hazardous chemicals and biohazards.
2. Air may contain dust when working with some equipment and in some areas.
3. Possibility of physical injury when lifting and working with tools and equipment
4. Possibility of insect bites, thorn pricks and allergic reactions when performing grounds duties.
5. Possible exposure to physical injury through contact with emotionally disturbed or cognitively impaired residents
6. Possible exposure to infectious diseases.
