Job Summary
The Occupational Therapy II position is based in Placentia and provides evidence-informed occupational therapy services to clients in acute care setting, residents in long term care and clients living in the community throughout the Placentia region.
This is a challenging position, which requires an individual to practice independently and be an integral member of an interprofessional team. The Occupational Therapist II applies clinical knowledge and skills to plan, implement, co-ordinate, evaluate and oversee occupational therapy services. Work includes client management, input into program and policy development, project development, quality initiatives, planning and evaluation activities of the clinical service and the profession, participating in evidence-based practice, education and community capacity building. The Clinical OT II provides clinical supervision and mentoring to other occupational therapy professional and support personnel.
This Occupational Therapy position is responsible for the identification of occupational performance areas, completion of assessments, co - creating treatment goals and objectives, providing intervention, establishing outcomes and follow up plan with the patients/residents/clients and caregivers. Specific Occupational therapy services will include discharge planning, functional and cognitive assessment, home assessments and modifications, equipment assessment and prescription. This is a challenging position, which requires an individual to practice independently to be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team, build respectful relationships with clients, team members, and others involved in the systems in which they work. The Occupational Therapist will recognize the social, structural, political, and ecological determinants of health impacting clients.
The Occupational Therapist II will be responsible to precept Occupational Therapy students and offer other clinical education experience to students within Eastern Health.
The position reports to the Regional Allied Health manager and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Occupational Therapy for integrity and professional practice issues

Regularly stands and walks when performing clinic activities and may drive to and from sites/homes within the region.
Regularly sits to perform administrative functions, observe or counsel clients. May also work in awkward or cramped positions at times.
Fine/finger precision work is required when working on the computer or using tools to adjust or repair equipment.
Hand tools are used to make adjustments on equipment and may require rapid physical movement and reflexes, as well as controlled movement. Gross motor skills and the use of heavy equipment are required when working with clients in performing therapeutic activities, or to move equipment.
Job Qualifications
Graduate of a school or program of occupational therapy recognized by the board.
Current licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board.
A minimum of three years of experience within the last five working as a Clinical Occupational Therapist in adult physical health is required.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, with interprofessional team members, patients/residents/clients and their families in a one-to-one and group environment.
Demonstrated effective written communication skills required for client documentation, report writing and professional communications
Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of occupational therapy practice to others.
Proven supervisory and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and train Clinical Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Support Workers and students.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team.
Proven ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical and effective practice.
Proven ability to manage multiple practice settings.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver?s License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment. Coverage for kilometers will be provided based on the collective agreement.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
