The Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University is expanding its academic footprint with the launch of a regional campus at the University of Prince Edward Island. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Systems Officer (Audio Visual and Software Systems) to support the daily delivery of our innovative medical curriculum across two interconnected classrooms.
Position Summary
As the Systems Officer (Audio Visual and Software Systems), you will play a leadership role in operating, maintaining, and enhancing AV conferencing systems that enable real-time teaching between two campuses; Memorial University Regional Campus Faculty of Medicine Charlottetown and MUN St. John's Campus. This includes the use of networked AV over IP technology, and integrated learning systems with push-to talk microphones at both campuses. You will support faculty members during daily teaching sessions and provide training to faculty, staff and learners lo ensure a seamless teaching and learning experience. You will supervise and train technical staff and provide strategic recommendations to improve system functionality. You will analyse system capabilities to identify deficiencies, including cybersecurity risks, and determine and manage changes required to the system including a comprehensive evergreen plan for both campuses.
DUTIES
Reporting to the Manager of Health Education and Technology and Learning and the Manager of Technology Solutions, the successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Operate and manage audio-visual conferencing systems for daily curriculum delivery between 2 campuses.
- Support faculty at both campuses during live teaching sessions, including setup and troubleshooting.
- Review and recommend changes to Audio Visual systems requirements. design and implementation for projects ranging in diversity and complexity. This requires coordination with internal/external stakeholders and vendors.
- Coordinate the day-to-day audio-visual operations, including some after-hours and/or off-site support for special events.
- Oversight and supervision of the duties of audio-visual technical staff.
- Oversee procurement of audio-visual systems and equipment, including RFP design.
- Lead development and implementation or audio-visual technical standards/specifications.
- Provide operational reports and analyze service metrics to develop improvement plans and support continuous transformation of service delivery.
- Provide hands on staff support for administrative tasks and projects relative to audio visual systems.
- Isolate problem trends and collaborate with stakeholders to develop long term solutions.
- Interface with users of AV technology, employing a high degree of tact and diplomacy to promote a positive image of the department. Resolve problem situations in a professional manner. Accurately communicate pertinent information to create a work environment that lends itself to the best interests of departmental personnel and customer service.
- Lead and mentor team members performing similar duties.
REQUIREMENTS
Considerable experience (3 - 5 years) working with enterprise Audio Visual systems in an operational environment. University degree in the field of computer science, information technology, or management information systems. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
ASSETS
- Professional certifications in the field of Audio Visual systems (e.g. AV CTS. ANP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (e.g. MS Teams).
- Experience with project management practices.
- Experience working in an academic institution.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills.
- Experience in developing and implementing operational processes.
- Experience supervising a team of Audio Visual technicians.
- Demonstrable customer-service oriented experience with a problem-solving attitude.
- Ability to perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when
- confronted with emergency situations.
- Ability to manage multiple high priority initiatives in a fast paced, technical environment.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems. collect data,
- establish facts and determine root cause to prevent future occurrences
- Aptitude for collaboration and teamwork
SALARY $64,361 – $79,406 per annum (Management and Professional)
