Our Communications team is hiring for the position of Communications Co-op for the fall 2025 term. This role will report to the Advisor of Social & Digital Media and work closely with the corporate communications, stakeholder engagement, and marketing teams.
Key elements of this role include:
Content development support: Assist in brainstorming and drafting engaging content for Nova Scotia Power's social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn) and website blog (Plugged In) including writing social copy, sourcing images, and preparing blog drafts.
Digital channel support: Help schedule and publish content across social media platforms using content planning tools (Sprout Social), ensuring posts are timely, accurate, and brand aligned.
Monitoring and reporting: Monitor social media conversations and news mentions to flag potential customer issues or emerging trends.
Internal communications: Help communicate timely and relevant content to internal audiences through written messages and our employee newsletter.
Video and creative production assistance: Provide support during content production--scheduling shoots, preparing storyboards or shot lists, attending shoots as needed, and coordinating internal approvals for creative assets.
Administrative and project support: Assist with team prep and note-taking and support cross-functional collaboration between internal teams and external agencies, as well as other duties as assigned.
These skills will make you successful:
Qualifications
You are currently working towards a degree or diploma in public relations, communications, marketing, or a related field.
Who you are
Highly organized with the ability to problem-solve, make decisions, and escalate when needed.
Passionate about storytelling and creative content and in-touch with social media trends and content formats (e.g., video, photo, etc.).
A strong writer with an ability to take complex content and simplify for larger audiences.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and multi-task, giving each project attention to detail, and meeting deadlines.
Sound judgement when handling challenges.
Experience working with cross-functional teams.
