SCHEDULE: Day, Weekend, On Call, Rotation, 8 and 12-hour shifts. Work schedule may be changed to meet operational needs.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy Services, the Chief Pharmacist plans and directs pharmacy practice activities to ensure quality services that meet patient needs at all points of service in the zone. They establish operating policies and procedures for the department, in compliance with legislation, regulations, standards of practice, Accreditation Canada requirements, and Vitalité Health Network policies and procedures. The successful candidate plans the department's clinical activities related to the strategic plans of the department and organization and to identified needs. They define clinical approaches and manage the budget, pharmaceutical product purchases, equipment and supplies, as well as human resources, risks and the quality program. The chief pharmacist also participates in identifying research needs and actively contributes to them as needed. They determine the intake capacity for students from vocational training programs and ensure the quality of their supervision during placements. They also hold a Certificate of Operation issued by the New Brunswick College of Pharmacists.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be registered with the New Brunswick College of Pharmacists and hold a valid provincial licence to practise;
  • Have at least five years' experience in hospital pharmacy;
  • Hold a master's degree or have completed a hospital pharmacy residency (an asset);
  • Use computer tools and office software (Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook) proficiently;
  • Demonstrate skills in planning, evaluating and improving services, as well as in resolving conflicts and problems;
  • Use evidence to support decision making;
  • Use critical thinking in evaluating processes;
  • Have effective oral and written communication;
  • Form productive partnerships and recognize the contributions of collaborators;
  • Have a strong sense of responsibility and delegate duties and responsibilities effectively;
  • Manage time optimally and prioritize assigned tasks;
  • Support and coach team members (coaching);
  • Adopt a participative leadership style focused on clients and results;
  • Actively engage in change and manage it with a positive attitude;
  • Foster a welcoming, client-centred working environment conducive to effective communication;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned work;
  • Good work history (performance and attendance);
  • Adherence to professional ethical principles, the Network's management philosophy, and organizational values;
  • Compliance with the rules of confidentiality set by Vitalité Health Network.
