Youth Engagement and Young Adult Services is rooted in the principal of equity. The program is designed to recognize the unique circumstance of each, youth, and young adult, ensuring a relationship-based approach, with tailored support, resources, and opportunities that are needed to reach outcomes equal to their peers.

The Department of Social Development is seeking individuals to join Child & Youth Well-Being Services as a Youth Engagement & Young Adult Social Worker throughout the province. The Child and Youth Well-Being Act was proclaimed in January 2024 with a strong commitment and focus on supporting youth and young adults (16 to 26 years of age) who are or were in the legal care of the Minister and/or were receiving Youth Engagement Services.

Social Development will act to enhance their partnerships with other government departments and community to facilitate best possible outcomes for these youth/young adults.

Focus on Housing supports, Relationships, Life Skills, Education, Training, Employment, and Individual Interests are the foundation of this program. As a member of the team, the successful candidate will be knowledgeable in key areas such as available services/supports for youth and young adults and the ability to develop authentic youth and young adult relationships.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing specialized supportive services to youth and young adults needing more intensive supports while implementing trauma-informed knowledge as they guide and support the youth and young adult into transitioning into interdependence.
  • Partnering with community to facilitate a variety of services including mentoring and delivering innovative programs that support better outcomes for Youth and Young Adults.
  • Ongoing evaluation of needs, safety and well-being of Youth and Young adults.
  • Assisting individuals in developing and implementing healthy, supportive networks.
  • Prepare and review plans of service, completing various assessments, leading collaborative meetings with community resources, services, family, and natural supports, and assessing/determining required supports while focusing on outcomes for the youth/young adult that include opportunities for education, training, employment and connections.
  • Capacity to "accept the youth where they are at" and to meet the youth/young adult where it best meets their needs. Thus, working within community and not always in a traditional government office. Openness to work flexible hours will be required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Completed Master's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work

In order to be appointed, candidates must be actively registered with the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers and will be required to undergo a Criminal History Clearance, as well as an SD Record Check (under the Family Services Act) prior to appointment.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required for some positions and written and spoken competence in English is required for some positions. Please state your language capability.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate experience in one or more of the following asset qualifications:

  • Demonstrates an ability to build and maintain relationships with individuals and community partners
  • Strong assessment skills
  • Understanding of Youth and Young Adult issues.
  • Experience working with youth to develop strategies for building resilience.
  • Knowledge of NB Case or NB Families or other electronic systems for managing program information.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have own means of transportation. Transporting youth and youth adults may be required. Travel within the region and some travel within the Province is required.
