Transform public service delivery as a key member of New Brunswick's executive leadership team! The Government of New Brunswick is seeking a visionary leader for the role of Deputy Minister, Communications and Marketing.

The Government of New Brunswick is seeking a communications leader who can bridge the gap between government complexity and public understanding for over 800,000 New Brunswickers; someone who demonstrates that trust is earned through clear and transparent messaging.

The Role

As Deputy Minister of Communications and Marketing, you will serve as strategic advisor to the Executive Council and the public service while leading communications across all departments and a variety of government agencies. Your mandate is to help government connect authentically with New Brunswickers, with intentional focus on facilitating two-way conversations about the province's future.

You will shape how government communicates across every channel and department. This means developing strategies that work, creating standards that matter, and ensuring our digital presence serves New Brunswickers effectively. You will oversee the execution of these strategies, turning plans into measurable outcomes.

You'll lead a team of 100 talented professionals who specialize in communications, public relations, marketing, graphic design, web development, media relations, and social media while managing an operating a budget of approximately $8 million. Beyond your direct team, you'll extend your influence and work in partnership with communications and marketing professionals throughout the public service including, school districts, health authorities and Crown corporations, championing best practices and encouraging collaborative efforts.

When challenges emerge, you will provide the strategic direction that keeps teams aligned and citizens informed.

Equally important is how you will help share results. Whether it's improved services, innovative solutions, or community investments, you will ensure these stories reach New Brunswickers.

You will ensure all government communications are consistent, inclusive, accessible, and genuinely useful.

Leadership Profile

You bring senior leadership experience from communications, public policy, media, or government. Your track record shows you can navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments while maintaining focus on results.

Your teams thrive because you lead with emotional intelligence and respect. You have successfully guided organizations through high-pressure situations without losing sight of the human element.

As a collaborative leader with exceptional judgment, you understand how current events shape public perception and organizational response. You are equally comfortable providing strategic counsel to executives and engaging with front-line teams.

You have a passion for finding and telling stories that illuminate the impact of government work.

Essential Qualifications

  • University degree in Marketing and Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Business or Leadership or similar
  • Progressive leadership experience, relevant to this role description
  • Demonstrated experience with stakeholder engagement and community consultation

Language requirement - Written and spoken competence in English or French

Salary range: $168,740 to $211,848

Like all Deputy Ministers, you'll be subject to the Conflict of Interest Act and political activity restrictions under the Civil Service Act.
