Community Engagement Coordinator - Term

Salary: In accordance with the current collective agreement between The Public Alliance of Canada Union and Treasury Board.

Description: Reporting to the Superintendent, this position provides leadership towards the promotion, coordination and supervision of community partnerships that support schools in providing a quality inclusive environment for students. The position will also provide support for the communication of district, school and community held initiatives and interest to the general public and other stakeholders.

Work at this level requires knowledge normally gained through the equivalent of a University Degree in a non-technical area, supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience. Work is done within well-defined, somewhat diversified procedures; with many precedents covering most situations and/or readily available assistance. The complexity at this level implies that this position could be confronted with a number of different situations, each having several different solutions. At this level the job holder would have the latitude to resolve problems by determining which procedure to use. Work is subject to standardized practices and procedures.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervision of Community School Coordinators on best practices and new partnerships developed so that the maintenance and growth of the community-based activities can be supported at the district level
  • Provide leadership to the projects that have district impact
  • Build relationships with students, parents and school leaders
  • Work a flexible work schedule; attend local events to raise awareness to a campaign
  • Communication liaison for the Office of the Superintendent to media and other related organizations.
  • Maintain budgets, such as the allocation of fundraising money to dedicated programs

Qualifications: You must demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills as well as be able to multi-task. You must have a thorough working knowledge of the schools and the local communities. Hours of work must be flexible, responding to the needs of the school and community. A background in Community or Partnership Development, Communications, Social Work and/or Education will be considered a strong asset and a thorough working knowledge of local businesses and community resources would be preferred. Priority will be given to employees in the Bargaining Unit who work for the Anglophone East School District.
