Job Details:

  • Owns the Canadian Privacy Office program and regulatory compliance management and influences Privacy Compliance input into Canadian products, services, new business activities

  • Oversees the Canadian privacy programs and privacy team, and privacy risk management for other areas of specific accountability

  • As a subject matter expert, provides trusted, independent, and objective guidance to risk owners, risk partners and Compliance management on identifying and managing privacy risks, supporting business initiatives and the management of privacy related events and complaints

  • Review and analyze privacy related matters and issues to identify thematic gaps, emerging trends, perform root cause analysis to gain meaningful insights, advise on appropriate remediation and determine potential issues requiring reporting and escalation

  • Providing routine and regular reporting of privacy matters including regulatory non-compliance, emerging trends, and risks; responsible for reporting to key stakeholders, Senior Management and escalating as appropriate

  • Develops and maintains sound relationships with business, risk partner and Compliance management to promote strong privacy compliance practices and regular reporting

  • Manages the Canadian inventory of privacy policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, and processes, monitoring the privacy regulatory environment to update as required, and provides input as appropriate to similar documents at an enterprise level

  • Leads establishing and maintaining external Canadian privacy commitments (including customer and employee facing Privacy Agreements)

  • Maintains required risk and reporting tools (e.g., Canadian event related RROSH and BOSS assessments)

  • Develops and maintains Canadian specific training and communications including preparation, delivery, maintaining a Canadian Privacy intranet site, contributing to enterprise-wide training and enterprise privacy forums

  • Supports independent monitoring and testing

  • Manages meeting Canadian Privacy Office RCM accountabilities, including assessing the effectiveness of risk owner controls to meet privacy laws, rules and regulations

  • Maintains expert knowledge of relevant privacy laws and related requirements

  • Leads Canadian program strategy and contributes to enterprise program strategy

  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required

  • Partner and collaborate with the leads of the other Privacy jurisdictional offices and Data Privacy

  • Promote and maintain constructive interaction with Canadian Compliance Units (interaction model)

  • Fulfil Global Privacy Policy and other relevant accountabilities (coordinate with other TD areas with roles and responsibilities as appropriate for a Canadian privacy regulatory compliance view)

Job Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of privacy laws, regulations, and practice

  • Strong Leadership and People Management experience and skills

  • Expert communicator and relationship builder, with ability to work independently, think critically and make decisions

  • University degree required: Post Graduate degree preferred (preferably in computer science, engineering, mathematics or related quantitative field)

  • Demonstrated thought leadership and technical expertise in data science both through internal and external initiatives, including previous experience overseeing AI systems

  • Strong sense of personal ownership for effectively bridge technical and non-technical disciplines and stakeholders, and track record of doing so

  • Familiarity with regulations and compliance strategies and risk management; possesses and demonstrates expertise in the advisory, policy, change management, project management and operations

  • Highest personal and professional integrity and standards to advance TD's vision and protect the brand

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking/presentation skills and well developed listening and negotiation skills at all levels

  • People leadership and management experience focused on talent development and coaching to nurture a high performing team

  • Advances TD's leadership development, colleague experience & diversity agenda

  • Strong relationship building and negotiation skills and the ability to interact with sensitivity and leadership to advance and influence the culture Compliance aims to promote

  • Transparent communicator and respected TD representative, both internally and externally

  • Demonstrates ability delivering on objectives, focusing on what matters

  • Demonstrates strong problem solving & analytical skills, including the ability to comprehend a situation by breaking it down into its components and identifying underlying issues
