The Senior Data Engineer, Business Banking Credit Risk plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing scalable data solutions that support credit strategy, policy development, and operational decision-making across the Business Banking Credit Portfolio(s).

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Architect, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes to enable efficient ingestion, transformation, and delivery of structured and unstructured data from diverse sources.
  • Lead the modernization of data platforms by incorporating cloud-native technologies, automation, and best-in-class engineering practices to enhance data accessibility, quality, and performance.
  • Partner with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure data solutions align with analytical needs and strategic objectives, enabling timely insights and regulatory compliance.
  • Champion the adoption of modern data engineering frameworks, CI/CD practices, and data governance standards to drive innovation and operational excellence.
  • The incumbent will support oversight and analytics across Business Banking (BB) portfolios, segments, and industries, ensuring that data infrastructure and engineering practices enable business strategies in compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Lead the development of data pipelines, data models, and infrastructure to support the transformation of Business Banking Credit Risk. Leverage cloud technologies, automation, and agile methodologies to deliver scalable and resilient data solutions.
  • Engineer data workflows that transform raw data into actionable insights for Portfolio Oversight and stakeholder reporting
  • Maintain a disciplined, structured approach to data development. Ensure consistency across data sources, reporting layers, and user access protocols. Implement version control, upgrade planning, and testing frameworks.
  • Actively develop and maintain data products and dashboards. Collaborate with database administrators and data owners to ensure alignment between data requirements and backend systems. Lead user onboarding and adoption efforts.
  • Build data assets that support performance monitoring, macroeconomic trend analysis, and scenario modeling. Collaborate with policy, governance, and risk teams to translate data into strategic recommendations.
  • Integrate internal data with external research and macroeconomic indicators to define customer vulnerability frameworks and monitor segment performance.
  • Collect and document business and technical specifications. Ensure all data processes meet audit, compliance, and risk management standards.
  • Execute day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank's risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicate the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite statement.
  • Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Post-secondary education focused on Computer Science, Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering or Mathematics; master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in data engineering or similar roles
  • 5+ years of experience with Python, SQL, SAS
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working with GCP or other major cloud providers
  • Solid analytical skills with comfortability working with large amounts of information and translating data into clear and concise findings
  • Strong data engineering and data pipeline skills, with the ability to efficiently build data pipelines to support production ready models with Python and GCP
  • Experience using and implementing visualization tools such as Power Bi and/or Tableau is desirable
  • Knowledge of Business Banking products and services is an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with strong ability to present recommendations in a client-facing setting
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with ability to manage ambiguity
  • Highly organized with proven ability to make decisions in time pressured environment
