BACKGROUND
In 2019, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Nunavut Arctic College entered into a historic generational partnership on higher education. The goals of the partnership include cultivating, supporting and delivering shared degree programs focused on learners, promoting institutional collaboration, supporting leadership development, and increasing student accessibility to post-secondary education opportunities in Nunavut. Two professional degree programs, B.Ed. and B.SW., are successfully underway. Memorial University and Nunavut Arctic College work closely to ensure that Nunavut students are supported by both institutions and experience academic success. The relationship between Memorial University and Nunavut Arctic College continues to expand as both post-secondary institutions explore ways to create more opportunities for Nunavut learners.
DUTIES
Reporting to the Vice-President (Indigenous), the Director will assume a leadership role in the partnership between Nunavut Arctic College and Memorial University of Newfoundland. This singular generational partnership will facilitate the development of education, training, and research programs in Nunavut for Nunavummiut. The position will play a key role in the leadership and development of partnership governance, programming and curriculum collaboration, learner services, and building institutional capacity. Facilitating close working relationships with college and university senior leadership, faculty and students is a central tenet of this position. The successful applicant will ensure the effective and efficient delivery of partnership programs for the College and University partnership and work with faculty, industry partners, and regulators to identify the education, training and research needs of the partnership.
Specific duties include identifying new opportunities for education, training and research with all partnership members within Nunavut Arctic College and Memorial University; facilitating the development of degree programs with relevant faculties and schools; building learner services programs and services in partnership with the Steering Committee; generating policy review and coordinating metrics to show outcomes for the partnership; interfacing with all members, including senior leadership of Nunavut Arctic College and Memorial University; assisting with strategic planning; being involved with accreditation issues as they may relate to the development of new academic partnerships; representing the partnership at relevant industry meetings and consultation sessions; and performing other related duties as required. This position may require significant travel to Nunavut.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (5-10 years) in a senior leadership role in post-secondary education, training and labour market development; completion of a master's degree in a related field is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. This position demands an entrepreneurial leader with the ability to manage a wide range of projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate effective communication skills as well as internal and external strategic collaboration competencies. The successful candidate will also be results-oriented, able to work independently and collaboratively, and exhibit a participative and accessible management style that is also decisive. Significant experience in government relations, particularly in policy development and strategic planning, preferably in a Northern context, with experience working with Inuit populations; progressive senior administrative leadership in a complex environment; and experience with large budgets and staff supervision would be assets.
SALARY $96,244 - $126,638 per annum (Leadership Group)
