Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Wireless Team based at Eastlink’s Wireless division headquartered in Halifax Nova Scotia, the Wireless Specialist will work remotely to facilitate corrective and preventive maintenance activities on Eastlink’s wireless access sites in order to maximize network performance and availability. You will also manage and perform quality audits for deployment activities by participating in commissioning of wireless sites, and supporting the Radio Network Engineering team with field data collection, new equipment testing and general radio network optimization activities – must have wireless cellular LTE/UMTS/HSPA/Tower and construction experience. This position will be maintaining the St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador area after training in Halifax, NS.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and advise contractors for tower repairs and corrective maintenance
- Technical evaluations of installations
- Remotely monitor and perform quality assurance for the construction project managers
- Send quality and deficiency reports to the construction project managers
- Ensure maintenance and project budgets are followed
- Follow site build and provide reports on issues that can result in cost over runs or project delays
- Facilitate preventive and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with Eastlink’s Wireless Operation Standards, to maximize network availability and quality and achieve other performance metrics.
- Oversee commissioning of new sites according to the implementation schedule.
- Facilitate site maintenance activities and troubleshoot configuration problems.
- Work with the wireless team for Fault management, Configuration Management and Performance Management tools.
- Assist and project manage testing of new wireless cellular products/technology in collaboration with the Access Engineering team.
- Perform Field RF measurements and Data collection in support of the Radio Network Optimization Process.
- Participate in the definition of the site acceptance process in collaboration with Construction Project Managers.
- Perform site acceptance inspections for the wireless cellular access network.
- Provide feedback and issue deficiency reports to the Construction team, and follow up on execution. Provide feedback to the wireless planning and engineering teams on operational issues as part of a continuous improvement process.
- Maintain equipment firmware and configuration up to date.
- Manage repair and return, warranties, equipment calibration and other operational issues.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or Technical Diploma in electronics or telecommunications with 6+ years of relevant experience with wireless cellular networks or equivalent.
- Understanding of wireless cellular telecom network architecture as well as the potential impact of each Network Element on QoS, as well as wireless (RF) principles & technology.
- Understanding of wireless tower and rooftop site construction
- Technical knowledge:
- Radio equipment and related accessories (coaxial cables, antennas, repeaters, low noise amplifiers (LNAs), etc.).
- Basic Radio engineering rules (calculation of radio system noise, RF link budget, etc.).
- Integrated network optimization tools (TEMS).
- Basics of Point-to-Point wireless backhaul configuration.
- Understanding of cell and channel capacity concepts.
- Knowledge of various wireless broadband and UMTS/HSPA technologies (LTE experience is also an asset).
- Able to travel throughout St. John’s as required.
- Satisfactory criminal background check and driver’s abstract will be requested.
