The Department of Justice and Public Safety is looking to hire a qualified candidate to be a Correctional Cook at the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre.

What you will do
This work involves overall responsibility for meal preparation and service in government correctional institutions. The duties of this position include responsibility for meal planning, ordering and storing supplies, coordinating cooking activities according to scheduled mealtimes, managing portion control, ensuring nutritional requirements are met and preparing meals according to prescribed special diet needs. Employees in this position work in a correctional setting and are responsible to assume a leadership role, maintain safety and good order of the kitchen, maintain a work schedule, supervise and assign duties to kitchen staff during their assigned shift.
These job duties are only the basic and prime duties of the job.

Related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the department or agency.

Need to have (their essential skills and qualifications)

  • Graduation from high school supplemented by successful completion of a recognized program of studies in cooking from a community college and considerable experience (3 to 6 years) in large quantity cooking; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Candidates must show successful completion of the National Food Safety Training Program, or any program deemed equivalent by Department of Health.
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance and security clearance check.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following operational requirements are also required:

  • Successful candidates will undergo a criminal history clearance as well as a security clearance.
  • May be required to work weekends.

Wage
$25.22-$26.16 Hourly
