Duties: To provide advanced community- based clinical social work intervention to individuals with complex addictions and mental health needs who are receiving opioid dependency treatment. This position is an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment team which will use evidence-based approaches in the treatment of substance use disorder. These services include, intake, assessment, education, crisis intervention and short-term intervention through individual, family and group work. Also offers counselling to clients presenting with complex mental health needs and providing withdrawal management support. Completes comprehensive assessment, treatment, and follow-up in the context of a mental health and addictions team setting; provides referral and follow-up services for dependent clients to outside agencies both within and outside the province; accepts referrals from various services, provides necessary liaison pertaining to treatment plan and follow-up. The position may also be responsible for the provision of professional education sessions, clinical consultation, community awareness-raising activities, and advocacy and prevention initiatives. This position may require home visits and the use of a private vehicle is required.
Qualifications: Knowledge of professional counselling, assessment and case evaluation techniques in the area of addictions is required. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Considerable experience in counselling individuals and groups in the area of addictions is also required. The required knowledge and abilities for this position would normally have been acquired through progressively responsible experience in individual, group and family counselling in the area of addictions, and graduation from an accredited university with a Bachelor of Social Work, Master?s preferred, a Master of Education/Clinical Psychology, or a graduate degree in a clinical discipline with experience in an addictions treatment setting. Candidates must be eligible for registration within their profession. A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is a requirement for this position.
