JOB PURPOSE

To plan, organize, evaluate and participate in the ongoing activities of the Maternal/Fetal Medicine Clinic in collaboration with all other perinatal and outpatient services within the Women and Children's Health Program.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a Diagnostic Sonography Program.
  • Must be eligible for registration with Sonography Canada or The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical experience. Previous experience in a high-risk maternal fetal care unit would be considered an asset.
  • Competency in Nuchal Translucency Assessment. Current certification by the Fetal Medicine Foundation considered an asset.
  • Competency in Fetal anatomy, Transvaginal Cervical length assessments, and Fetal Doppler studies, would be an asset. Applicant must be willing to obtain necessary certifications as required.
  • Ability to assist with diagnostic procedures including Amniocentesis.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal, and team building skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates ability to integrate emerging research into clinical practice.
  • Demonstrates initiative and good judgement.
  • Must have all applicable immunizations within 1 month of hire.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Good work record.
  • Current BCLS certification.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Medical Sonography Technologist is responsible for

  • Assessing and preparing patients to perform ultrasound examinations
  • Preparing and operating equipment
  • Performing procedures in accordance with standards of practice
  • Assessing test results and preparing Impressions
  • Using clinical information systems to access and maintain clinical records and documentation
  • Assisting with or performing quality assurance activities/initiatives
  • Providing mentoring and support for DI staff, students and other health care professionals
