Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director - Provincial Medical Services, the Director -
Physician Wellness and Retention will provide leadership, vision and strategic
direction to the Medical Staff of NL Health Services. The Director will be accountable
for managing and developing people, have fiscal and resource stewardship
responsibilities, as well as support quality and risk management and promote effective
communications.
The Director will be responsible for the development and implementation of a
physician engagement and wellness framework to create stable relationships between
physicians and NLHS, that impacts the health and wellness of physicians, by
providing leadership education, mentorship programming, peer-to-peer counseling,
and access to counseling and supportive services.
The Director will work closely with senior management and physician leadership to
establish and maintain positive working relationships between physicians and
management and engage physicians to ensure effective communication and
collaboration. The Director will also be responsible for building strong partnerships
both provincially and nationally with specific linkages to the NLMA, Department of
Health and Community Services, the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the
Faculty of Medicine, as well as championing and incorporating patient and family
centered care within the Medical Services Program.
Job Qualifications
Education
A bachelor's degree in business, health-related discipline or other related field is
required.
A master's degree is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of five years' recent progressive management experience working in a
health care management role is required.
Experience in a management role within medical services is required.
Experience in human resource management and wellness is preferred.
Significant recent experience in managing projects of a complex nature is required.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
In-depth knowledge of the field of medical services and the factors impacting
physician wellness.
Thorough knowledge of healthcare systems, and familiarity with the bylaws
respecting Medical Staff, the Physician Memorandum of Agreement, and
organizational policies and procedures.
Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in process improvement and change
management methodologies.
Proven senior management and leadership abilities, and excellent communication,
interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
Demonstrated highly developed negotiation, time management, problem-solving,
Human Resource Management and decision-making skills.
Demonstrated ability to function in a high pressure, diverse and changing
environment.
