Job Summary
The Division Manager of Surgical Services is responsible for the following areas: Health Science Centre Operating Room Bookings, Pre-Admission Clinic, Ophthalmology Clinic and Surgical Day Care. The Division Manager directs staff within areas of accountability; encourages professional development activities; completes regular performance evaluations; participates in the recruitment process and ensures fair and consistent application of the collective agreement. They establish staffing requirements and monitor and interpret staff utilization statistics. Establishes performance expectations through feedback and guidance for the department and individual employees. The Division Manager is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating key directions, objectives, and strategies, quality and risk initiatives, and safety initiatives for patients and staff in a dynamic environment.

Occasionally moves or lifts objects between 1- 5 lbs. such as pens, paper, file folders, or boxes.
Regularly performs sedentary work including desk/computer work, answering telephone or emails; regularly walks or stands to observe or consult with stakeholders.
Regularly performs fine finger/precision computer work requiring steadiness and accurate movement/control.
Visual and hearing concentration is required to observe or consult with stakeholders, to work on documents or to listen to stakeholders on the telephone or in person.
Regularly required to travel to and from work sites for meetings.

Job Qualifications
Education
Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline is required.
Master's Degree is preferred.
Certification in Perioperative nursing preferred

Experience
A minimum of five years of operating room experience within the last seven is required.
Previous management experience is required.

Knowledge of issues related to Perioperative.
Knowledge of program development, implementation and evaluation.
Knowledge of quality improvement and project management.
Knowledge of staff and patient safety initiatives.
Demonstrated conflict management skills.
Demonstrated strong decision making, interpersonal, leadership and communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage and foster positive interpersonal relationships with various stakeholders.
Demonstrated financial stewardship.
Ability to manage change and continuous improvement.

Current registration with a professional association.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
