SEED's mandate is to empower young Nova Scotians to better understand and make informed decisions that support their professional and personal success. Through strategic partnerships, programming, and community collaborations, SEED works to enhance training opportunities, skills development, and educational access for youth across the province. By fostering meaningful engagement and innovative support systems, SEED aims to create pathways that help youth overcome barriers and thrive in today's workforce and beyond.

This role is part of an exciting program currently being launched at SEED, the EDGE Program (funded by OSD). We're looking for individuals who are comfortable with change, eager to contribute to a new initiative, and ready to help shape its success from the ground up.

The EDGE Program is an early intervention program that provides targeted employment focused programing for youth (ages 18-26), who are connected to Employment Support Income Assistance (ESIA), or at risk of becoming connected.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Job Developer will focus on employment attachment, working with the youth to determine their skills, and interests. The Job Developer will connect with employers to secure partnerships and job opportunities.

Duties:

  • Meet bi-weekly with youth (first 3 months) to explore interests, skills, and career goals.
  • Provide case management, including resume support, job search assistance, skill matching, and labour market info.
  • Coordinate with team members and external providers to ensure wraparound support.
  • Help youth improve self-marketing and interview readiness.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations and job centres.
  • Network with government agencies and training institutions
  • Cultivate employer relationships to secure placements and paid opportunities.
  • Identify suitable job matches aligned with youth skills and goals.
  • Deliver youth workplace orientations and clarify job responsibilities.
  • Arrange job shadowing opportunities for youth
  • Provide support to the youth during transition to employment.
  • Support employers in understanding youth barriers and provide them with strategies to foster success in the workplace.
  • Visit work sites and provide on-the-job support when required.
  • Provide ongoing support to ensure successful employment outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date case notes internal systems and LaMPPS.
  • Maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research and provide details to program manager for LAMPSS reporting.
  • Participate in networking opportunities (i.e. job developers' group)
  • Attend a weekly case management meeting with all EDGE staff to discuss youth progress and updates
  • Must be willing to cross train and assume other duties as needed

Qualifications

  • Degree or post-secondary education in the Human Services Field
  • Minimum of four (4) years experience working within the field; job developing, facilitating sessions and providing one-on-one support to marginalized youth
  • Ability to recognize existing barriers to employment frequently present with OSD clients
  • Experience in providing one-on-one support in relation to employability and skill development, including youth who have multiple barriers to employment
  • Strong knowledge of community organizations, service providers and employers
  • Ability to identify youth skills, interests and goals
  • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with employers
  • Have a deep understanding of diverse job seekers needs and challenges.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and different levels of job readiness
  • Ability to assess individuals job readiness
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of ESIA policies.
  • Ability to make effective client employer matches and maintain positive relationships with employers.
  • Strong knowledge of Nova Scotia's labour market trends and industries.
  • Able to use the Labour Market Industry (LMI) to identify job opportunities
  • Experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office and other online platforms
  • Confidence and ability to connect with clients in virtual spaces.
  • Ability to adapt interventions and workshops to online only.

Additional Information:

A typical workday is from Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm; however occasional evenings/weekends/overnights could be necessary. Travel within HRM and across NS could be necessary.
