The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Principal Engineer - Simulation Specialistto join our CTO team in Sudbury/Toronto.

This is a permanent hybrid position in either Toronot/Sudbury

As a Principal Engineer, Simulation Specialist, you will develop and implement advanced simulation models to optimize various mining processes, focusing on the efficient movement and utilization of trucks, equipment, and materials. Leveraging discrete event and agent-based simulation techniques, you will enhance operational efficiency and boost productivity. Key responsibilities include creating and maintaining detailed simulation models, analyzing and visualizing large datasets, identifying bottlenecks, and guiding future development processes. Your experience and skill will allow you to play a key role in driving the efficiency and productivity of our mining operations through advanced simulation techniques, supporting our commitment to sustainable and efficient mining practices.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Develop, validate, and maintain simulation models for various mining processes, including truck dispatch, equipment utilization, and material handling.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data and understand operational requirements.
  • Analyze simulation results and provide actionable insights to improve mining operations.
  • Conduct scenario analysis to evaluate the impact of different operational strategies.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives based on simulation outcomes.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement simulation-driven improvements and innovations. Familiarity with data analysis tools and project management experience are also desirable

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field.
  • Certificate in Data Analysis/Analytics.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 11 years of experience in developing and implementing discrete event and agent-based simulation models
  • Experience with simulation software, considerable experience in mining operational excellence and business acumen, data analysis, coding, and considerable exposure to multiple mining companies or consultant experience is ideal

Skills:

  • Proficiency in simulation software such as Arena, Simio, Any Logic, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of mining operations and processes is highly desirable.
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical software (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB).
  • Familiarity with optimization techniques and tools.
  • Understanding of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Project management experience.
