The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Ventilation Sr. Engineer to join our Mine Engineering team in Sudbury.
This is a permanent on-site position.
The role of Ventilation Engineer manages the mine's ventilation system on a day-to-day basis considering performance, cost and efficiency, provides guidance to the mine operations to ensure integrity of assets, compliance to standards and legislative compliance. The role provides direction to mine leaders during emergencies through coordination and implementation of the mine Emergency Preparedness Plan. The role develops scopes of work with respect to ventilation projects and supports special projects to improve and optimize mine ventilation systems.
The role is responsible for ventilation system troubleshooting, participating in investigations, maintaining the Ventilation Design Package(s) and numerical models, integrating the 3 to 36 month ventilation plan into the 0 to 3 month mine execution plan, auditing the quality of data collection including regulatory measurements, recommending and trialing new products, developing and supporting the collection of KPI data.
This role functions as a key resource to manage and ensure the integrity of a mine's ventilation system.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Develop scopes of work that support changes to ventilation systems within the mine.
- Communicate ventilation issues to varying mine audiences.
- Respond to vent issue(s) addressed by either JHSC or MOL.
- Integrate the ventilation portion of the LR Mine Design into and develop the 0-36 month mine ventilation strategy and ensure that infrastructure is included in the mine plan and scheduled appropriately to reduce risk of impact to production.
- Supports the Integrated Operating Schedule work of the site.
- Supports the mine site UG Fire Procedure updates and associated tasks.
- Check the quality and accuracy of blast clearing letters.
- Mine gases and data interpretation. Communicate with site Hygienist on dust and any high-risk areas.
- Serve as ventilation support for engineering and MTS.
- First line of defense in reviewing the accuracy of updated mine rescue prints.
- Communication to varying audiences, including operations to mine management.
- Contribute in the career development of ventilation team, site service maintenance and others through training, sharing of knowledge and mentoring to foster skills and competencies.
About You
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field of engineering (Mining, Mechanical, Civil, etc.)
- P.Eng. designation
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 to 7 years post P.Eng designation.
Skills:
- Strong fundamental knowledge of Ventilation, Mine Design, Infrastructure.
- Previous experience in mine ventilation, industrial ventilation, commercial HVAC, (or similar in pumping systems).
- Knowledge in relevant softwares such as Ventsim and Deswik.
- Field data collection including airflow and pressure measurements.
- Experience working in underground hardrock mine operations and technical services.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong verbal, written and analytical communication skills with a varied audience and development of documents and presentation materials.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
