The Climate Change Secretariat (CCS) plays an instrumental leadership role in ensuring that New Brunswick reduces its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and increases our resiliency and response to the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change. The CCS also focuses on initiatives related to education, awareness, and capacity-building and the CCS is responsible for the Climate Change Act and associated regulations. It is also responsible for the development of New Brunswick's Climate Change Action Plans and coordinates its implementation, tracking and reporting. The Secretariat works with government departments and agencies to ensure that actions on climate change are integrated with governmental policies, programs, and day-to-day decisions. The CCS also engages local governments and non-government partners and various stakeholders to increase knowledge and capacity while encouraging lower carbon and resilient investments and practices.

The Department of Environment and Local Government provides integrated stewardship through planning and management of land use, and waste management issues. It ensures effective enforcement of, and compliance with, environmental legislation and regulations and provides effective consultation and liaison with local governments, regional service commissions and Rural Districts on governance related issues.

What you will do? Reporting to the Director of Climate Change Mitigation, the successful candidate will be responsible for: investigating, analyzing, and providing expert advice primarily relating to reducing, avoiding, capturing and storing carbon (utilizing the natural environment and carbon removal technologies), sustainable bioenergy, and carbon offsets. This role requires: developing policies and programs; preparing analytical documents including standards, guidelines, discussion papers and briefing notes; overseeing mitigation projects using project planning tools and technique; and conducting reviews of related projects and funding applications. As the Carbon Management Specialist, you will provide expert advice and insights in related science, technology and innovation including nature-based carbon sequestration, carbon capture, carbon storage, land-use, land-use change, and forestry (LULUCF), and offset solutions as well as represent the Climate Change Secretariat on various regional, national and international working groups and committees.

Essential qualifications The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in a field related to the science of climate change mitigation, such as Science or Environmental Management, or a related degree, with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience, including the following:

• A demonstrated understanding of Climate Change Mitigation and carbon management solutions involving both nature and technology;
• Experience undertaking analysis related to aspects of Climate Change Mitigation such as nature-based carbon management solutions
• Experience preparing reports related to aspects of Climate Change Mitigation;
• Project coordination and management experience;

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate one or more of the following asset qualifications:

• Published reports related to aspects of climate change GHG mitigation.
• Project management experience related aspects of climate change GHG mitigation.
• Experience with stakeholder relations related to aspects of climate change GHG mitigation.
• Demonstration of experience related to aspects of carbon management such as nature-based carbon sequestration and storage, natural carbon stock assessment, carbon capture and storage technologies, offset credits, and LULUCF.

Wage
Pay Band 5: $2,536 to $3,542 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week

Work environment

• Office location: 20 McGloin (Marysville Place), Fredericton.
• Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30 (office schedule)
• Possibility of remote work within New Brunswick.
