THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a visionary Vice-President, Investments to join our team. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to shape the future of venture capital investment in New Brunswick, working alongside entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem partners. The successful candidate will lead investment strategy, including NBIF's direct and indirect strategies, actively manage portfolio companies and investment decisions, and cultivate strong investor relationships to maximize returns and long-term impact.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Reporting to the CEO, and in alignment with NBIF's VC Policy and Investment Strategy the Vice-President, Investments will:

• Lead and oversee deal sourcing, due diligence, and investment structuring to support high-potential startups and maximize returns.
• Oversee portfolio management, working closely with founders to accelerate growth, optimize opportunities and connections, and drive value creation.
• Serve as an NBIF representative on portfolio companies' Boards of Directors providing strategic governance and operating leadership to the management teams of the portfolio companies.
• Identify opportunities for follow-on investments, exits, and liquidity events to enhance portfolio performance.
• Conduct market analysis to identify emerging trends and inform investment decisions and strategic direction.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with co-investors, industry leaders, and strategic partners to enhance deal flow.
• Mentor and manage a team of investment professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Engage with investors and stakeholders to strengthen NBIF brand presence and investor relations.

WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS?

• 10+ years of experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, or a related field.
• Ideally, operating experience in a senior role with emerging venture capital backed technology companies.
• Proven track record in sourcing, structuring, and managing early-stage investments, with expertise in scaling businesses, portfolio growth, and value creation.
• Strong financial acumen, including financial modeling, risk assessment, and strategic exits including M&A, liquidity events.
• Experience partnering with founders and executive teams to navigate fundraising, operational challenges, and strategic decision-making and exits.
• Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and relationship and people management skills.
• Deep understanding of market trends, technology, and innovation.
• Proven acumen in governance, investor relations, and stakeholder engagement.
• A background in finance, business, economics, or a related discipline - MBA or CFA designation is an asset.
• A growth mindset and passionate about making a difference in New Brunswick.
• Written and verbal communication in French is considered as asset.

LOCATION

• This role is based in New Brunswick, ideally in Fredericton, however this is subject to negotiation.
• Travel within Canada will be required.
