The Financial and Consumer Services Commission (Commission) is a leader in integrated financial and consumer services regulation. The Commission's mandate is to protect consumers and enhance public confidence in the financial and consumer marketplace through the provision of regulatory and educational services. With offices in both Fredericton and Saint John, it is responsible for the administration and enforcement of provincial legislation regulating mortgage brokers, payday lenders, real estate, securities, insurance, pensions, credit unions, trust and loan companies, cooperatives, unclaimed property, and a wide range of consumer legislation. The Commission is a self funded Crown corporation responsible for the administration and enforcement of financial consumer services legislation.

Strategic Operations and Performance Specialist - Information Technology & Regulatory Informatics Division (Fredericton or Saint John office)

Are you ready to drive strategic success and operational excellence? As the Strategic Operations and Performance Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in driving annual work planning, leading enterprise risk management efforts, and supporting the Commission's strategic direction. You'll collaborate with Executive Management and senior leadership to provide insights to the Commission Members and committees. This dynamic position offers the opportunity to support strategic planning, oversee the CEO Scorecard, and ensure smooth enterprise risk management. Your Focus

As the Strategic Operations and Performance Specialist, you will be responsible for managing key functions related to strategic work planning, enterprise risk management, scorecard oversight, and business continuity planning. Your primary duties will include:

Strategic Planning:

  • Support the development of the organization's strategic, business, and annual work plans.
  • Draft and update work planning documentation for executive review and approval.
  • Drive accountability for the achievement of annual work plans with senior leadership.
  • Work with the Director of Communications and Public Affairs to support the development of the organization's strategy.

Enterprise Risk Management:

  • Oversee the maintenance of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, ensuring effective risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.
  • Consult with leadership to implement risk management strategies across various domains, including strategic, operational, financial, and technological risks.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the organization's risk environment and monitor industry best practices.

Scorecard and Process Improvement:

  • Analyze and recommend improvements to internal performance processes, evaluating options based on business and technical impact.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement communication plans for successful process adoption.
  • Manage the organizational scorecard and communicate performance results to senior leadership and the Commission.
  • Provide relevant corporate reporting milestones to senior leadership and the Board.

Business Continuity Planning:

  • Work with business divisions to analyze and implement business continuity solutions.
  • Collaborate with leadership to prepare, update, and maintain business continuity plans.
  • Maintain a centralized repository for Business Continuity-related documents.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in business administration, or a related field
  • 7+ years relevant experience is required
  • Significant familiarity with best practices in enterprise risk management, strategic planning, as well as overseeing complex projects and operations
  • Strong writing abilities as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A demonstrated ability to systematically break down complex or multidimensional problems or processes is required to assess solutions, determine their value based on success criteria, risk and impact on desired organizational results
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and
  • Management experience in industry or a public regulatory or enforcement agency is required.

Additional Strengths and Assets

  • General knowledge of the regulated sectors of the Commission
  • Bilingualism in French and English
  • Formal training and certification in risk management, project management and process improvement
