The Joint Economic Development Initiative (JEDI) works with partners to foster economic and workforce development for Indigenous peoples and communities. JEDI invites applications for the role of Provincial Indigenous Employment Coordinator in Fredericton. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, promoting and coordinating JEDI employment services for Indigenous peoples in New Brunswick. This includes assisting in the development and implementation of a coordinated approach to Indigenous workforce and employment development in the province, developing the capacity of First Nation communities and organizations in these areas and working as part of the JEDI team to establish strategic and inter-sectoral partnerships with employers/industry, post-secondary institutions, governments and First Nation communities to increase employment opportunities for Indigenous peoples in the province.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a Provincial Indigenous Employment Strategy to increase employment opportunities for Indigenous peoples in New Brunswick in collaboration with Employment Training Officers (ETO's), the Department of Post-Secondary Education Training and Labour and other partners.
  • Serve as liaison between the ETO's and the JEDI team regarding the availability of work-ready Indigenous individuals to include the development and maintenance of a provincial database of Indigenous workers.
  • Coordinate and co-chair Indigenous Employment Services Initiative committee meetings and activities.
  • In collaboration with the JEDI team, provide labour market trends and analytics to ETO's and Economic Development Officers (EDO's), develop strategic relationships with partners and stakeholders, promote the availability of work-ready Indigenous individuals to employers.
  • Collaborate with ETO's and EDO's from Indigenous communities and agencies on cross-promotion and employment related activities such as job placements, job postings, referral of clients, and/or job fairs.
  • Facilitate Indigenous employment and capacity development projects in specific industry sectors, liaising and coordinating between project leads, employers and candidates. Participate on selection committees to evaluate potential candidates and maintain ongoing support for project participants.
  • Provide oversight for JEDI's Indigenous Internship Program (IIP).

Qualifications:

  • University degree in a related field such as Business Administration or Social Sciences. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Training or certification related to career development, Indigenous human resources and/or economic development are strong assets.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of First Nations communities, culture and social concerns. Preference will be given to qualified candidates of Indigenous descent.
  • Proven experience in relationship and partnership development with First Nations communities and organizations, provincial, federal and private sectors.
  • Excellent written and spoken communications abilities including proposal writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Office 365 (Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel in the province.
  • Satisfactory criminal background/vulnerable sector clearance and maintenance are required.
