Sharing Our Cultures, Incorporated is a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to the promotion of intercultural understanding within a multicultural and bilingual Canada. Established in 1999, our programs, projects, and events engage culturally diverse school children and youth in activities that foster respect, acceptance, and a sense of belonging. We provide opportunities for newcomer school youth to enhance their sociocultural, academic, and employability skills through facilitated learning sessions, educational games, and outings to historic sites in and around the St. John's area.

Position Requirements

We are seeking candidates with exceptional communication and organization skills to fill two part-time positions as Bilingual (French and English) Coordinators.

We are recruiting for two part-time positions as follows:

Location 1: St. John's, NL: June 10, 2024, to August 30, 2024, with the possibility of extension to March 30, 2025

Location 2: Happy Valley Goose Bay, NL: October 6, 2024, to March 30th, 2025

Applicants must indicate the location for which they are applying.

Each position will require 20 hours a week. Successful candidates will be based in their respective locations (St. John's or Happy Valley Goose Bay, NL) but will be expected to travel to surrounding communities as required.

Renumeration is commensurate with training and experience. A current criminal records and vulnerable sector check, a valid driver's license, and a reliable vehicle are required for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a communication strategy to encourage participation by culturally diverse junior and senior high school youth.
  • Plan and organize activities for youth participants.
  • Assist youth participants with researching, writing, and presenting information about their cultures.
  • Create promotional materials and content in French and English for our website and social media.
  • Organize and coordinate a public intercultural event for participants to showcase their presentations.
  • Submit a weekly report and a detailed final report.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent of experience and qualification.
  • Excellent critical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills (English and French).
  • Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Experience working with children and youth from diverse cultural backgrounds.
