The Organization

Eastern Residential Support Board Inc. is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Residential Manager.

Eastern Residential Support Board Inc. is a dynamic, well-established not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing residential and emotional support for our clients. We believe in providing comprehensive support and opportunities for personal growth, independence, and inclusion within the community.

ERSB's mandate is to provide a community-based home-like living arrangement and support to individuals with physical and/or developmental delays, and to provide the physical and human resources to foster emotional support and physical care for these individuals making an adjustment to community living. ERSB currently operates thirteen cooperative living arrangements in the St. John's metro area and is a unionized organization, with NAPE being the bargaining agent.

The Opportunity

The Residential Manager position is accountable for overseeing the day-to-day management of all residents' programs and services for a minimum of three out of thirteen homes operated by the Board. Each home houses the most behaviorally challenged clients in Newfoundland and Labrador, including individuals with extreme behavior patterns that have been unable to be placed successfully in any other arrangement. The position ensures that all required staffing levels are provided ensuring program delivery and safety, and that all operational requirements are carried out in accordance with approved resident programs, collective agreements, legislation, and Eastern Health and Board policies. This position is one of five identical positions reporting to the Director of Residential Services.

Specific Accountabilities include:

  • Manages a minimum of three residential units with up to 60 employees.
  • Develops work schedules and monitors programs to ensure desired outcomes are achieved. Participates in the planning, organizing, coordinating, and managing of residential care programs and provides input into the development of policies, programs, initiatives, and activities specific to new program development.
  • Reviews and monitors unit spending.
  • Manages staff including recruitment, orientation, performance evaluation, ongoing in-service, and other training opportunities and discipline.
  • Maintains harmonious working relationships with staff to ensure smooth delivery of services.
  • Liaises and consults with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the best interests of the Board's residents are promoted.

The Candidate

Qualifications for the position would ordinarily be obtained through the completion of a post-secondary education, preferably a university degree in the field of social work or psychology and experience working in a community-based setting with individuals with disabilities. Applicants should also have a sound working knowledge of the philosophy and practices that lead to quality community living experiences. Applicants must demonstrate good work ethic and attendance.

Other qualifications would ordinarily include leadership competencies in a dynamic working environment; proficiency in scheduling and leave management systems; a working knowledge of a computerized office environment and Microsoft Office programs; strong interpersonal, written, and oral skills; proficiency in Labor Relations in a unionized environment; and an ability to work with diverse challenges in a complex organization. Equivalencies may be considered.

The Rewards

Salary is in accordance with the HAY Management pay scale, HL 18 ($61,890 to $80,456).

The compensation package also includes enrollment in ERSB's Pension and Benefits plans; five weeks paid leave plus statutory holidays; a thirty-five hour work week, and a compressed work schedule if desired.
