(Technical Systems Metal Fabrication Supervisor)

(Permanent Position)

DUTIES

The successful applicant will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the general activities of a welding and metal fabrication shop. Duties include coordinating activities and supervising technical staff; preparing cost estimates; tracking project costs in the work order system; providing instruction to subordinates and mentoring apprentices; planning and maintaining work schedules; providing technical support for design and construction methods with faculty, researchers, students, and staff; communicating project status with clients; participating in the interview and appointment of technical personnel; maintaining records for quality assurance system; keeping up-to-date on best practices and current technologies for welding and metal fabrication processes; and performing other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (9 - 10 years) as a journey-person welder, with supervisory experience in a University or related environment considered an asset; graduation from high school supplemented by the successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program in welding and sheet-metal fabrication; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Demonstrated competency working with a variety of welding and metal fabrication processes and equipment is required. Working knowledge of CNC cutting tables as well as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other 3D CAD modeling programs is required. Knowledge of estimating and project planning is necessary. The successful candidate will have excellent organization and communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to qualify for CWB and ASME welding tickets. CWB Welding Supervisor certification; an understanding of MP2 work order management system; and the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management standard are considered assets.

SALARY $67,857 - $79,601 per annum (Non-Bargaining)
