Job Description

Social Worker III, Temporary Full-Time (Approximately 6 Months with possible extension)Mental Health & Addictions, Hope Valley Youth Treatment Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor

Definition of Work:
This is a specialized social work position that provides clinical services, case management and discharge planning at the treatment center for youth with addictions and mental health needs. The position will be housed at the Hope Valley Centre and will operate primarily within this facility; however, this position will also operate in community-based settings. The Social Worker III functions with a considerable degree of autonomy and independent clinical judgment in meeting accountabilities. This position reports to the Regional Manager of Mental Health and Addictions. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Duties:
* Functions with a high level of autonomy while functioning as a member of an interdisciplinary team and working to address the varied substance use and mental health needs of an extremely complex youth population.
* Provides individual, group and family counselling to a select adolescent addictions and mental health population; specifically, youth with substance use and concurrent disorders.
* Uses an advanced working knowledge of the range of treatment modalities and services to most effectively and efficiently address the needs of this highly complex population.
* Contributes to the development of the treatment program offered at the centre.
* Assists with the orientation and mentoring of staff.
* Develops policies and procedures in consultation with divisional, organizational and provincial teams.
* Participates in case consultation and coordination.
* Works in partnership with community youth serving agencies throughout the province to promote the development of a continuum of services in the community to meet the needs of youth as they transition from the treatment center to their home communities.
* Other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
* Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.
* Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers.
* 2 years current experience, within last 5 years, working with adolescents with mental health and/or addiction issues.
* Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of independence while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.
* Demonstrated experience working with individuals, families and groups.
* Demonstrated knowledge of program, services, and community resources.
* Demonstrated effective skills in interpersonal relationships, interdisciplinary team collaboration, leadership, communication, advocacy, networking, time management, case management and client support.
* Demonstrated knowledge of and considerable experience utilizing Best Practice Standards and methods in the areas of substance use and concurrent disorders in youth including assessment, counselling, research and evaluation.
* Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills using a range of technologies.
* Satisfactory Child, Youth and Family Services Records Check.
* Use of a private vehicle and valid driver license are a condition of employment.
* Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
* Satisfactory Record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority including a vulnerable sector check.

Preferred qualifications:
* Certification in the administration of the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (ACRA) for substance abuse treatment with youth would be an asset.

The Hope Valley Treatment Centre is home to a therapy dog which is often used as part of therapeutic programming for clients. Employees will have regular contact with the therapy dog and will share responsibilities associated with the care of this dog.

Hours of Work: 75 hours bi-weekly (Shift work may be required)
Salary: CG-43 ($42.69-$50.35)
