Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)
(1-Year Contractual Position)
DUTIES
Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Field Services, the successful candidate will deliver EHS services for Memorial University. Duties include providing oversight and guidance on occupational health and safety compliance; investigating EHS concerns and incidents and recommending corrective action; acting as an EHS Advisor to faculty, staff, students, and workplace health and safety committees; delivering education and training as required; performing technical workplace inspections and assessments to ensure legislative compliance; preparing follow-up reports; completing risk assessments where needed and assisting in the development of required safe work procedures; conducting required safety reporting, including health and safety statistics and trending; conducting analysis of statistical data; maintaining information systems, identifying trends, performance indicators, and strategies for improvement; developing strategies to resolve EHS issues; participating in field-level investigations of incidents; completing incident investigation reports; ensuring appropriate contractor safety management and laboratory safety guidelines are in place; and performing other related duties as required. This position will require occasional use of personal vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in occupational health and safety; completion of a 3-year diploma of Technology or degree with concentration in occupational health and safety or a related discipline, supplemented by 1-year Advanced Safety Diploma; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Designation (or eligible to apply) and proficiency in contractor safety management and laboratory safety are assets. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to make decisions, interact at all levels of the organization and across businesses, and effectively and efficiently coordinate action as part of an EHS team. Effective communication and excellent writing and public speaking skills are required.
SALARY $59,460 - $81,079 per annum (Management and Professional)
