The Program

The Re-Integration Support and Empowerment Program (RISE) provides a link to the community for incarcerated individuals through the provision of direct assistance, information, advocacy, guidance, and related support. It is aimed towards reducing the negative impact of incarceration and helping with transition by providing appropriate guidance and support that will assist individuals during and following their incarceration in order to maximize social inclusion and increase the likelihood of successful community reintegration. Individuals who are remanded in custody may access services. A continuum of service is established, beginning in custody and following an individual's release to ensure expedient access to appropriate resources. Ongoing case management support is provided to address needs, and assist individuals towards attaining stability and independence in the community, thus increasing their likelihood of success.

The Position

Reporting to the Reintegration Services Team Lead, the Reintegration Caseworker will work collaboratively within the Reintegration Services Team at the agency, and with institution staff at remand facilities. This position will work in tandem with other Reintegration Caseworkers. Using a collaborative approach, the Reintegration Services Team provides intensive case management and facilitates wraparound supports to assist with release planning, connection with community supports/resources, employment related support, substance recovery, transportation, and cultural supports. Providing individualized, ongoing, trauma-informed support for individuals while helping them reintegrate into the community is integral to this role.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach services to individuals incarcerated at the Calgary Remand Centre and Women's Annex
  • Provide release planning and ongoing case management support in the community for individuals as needed
  • Help address immediate needs that address barriers to integration/social inclusion
  • Accompany and transport individuals to access resources in the community and attend appointments
  • Transport individuals in your personal vehicle with compensation for mileage
  • Liaise regularly with client support systems (AHS – addictions/mental health workers, institution caseworkers, internal programming staff, community corrections staff, family, employer, landlord, etc.)
  • Follow up with clients to assess progress towards goal and/or goal attainment
  • Program marketing, networking, and building supportive working relationships with community resources
  • Ongoing development of intake and assessment processes, outcome measurement and evaluation tools
  • Data collection, database input, casework documentation, participant evaluations and administrative tasks
  • Internal and external reporting as required
  • Participate in regularly scheduled agency and team meetings

The Reintegration Caseworker will have relevant post-secondary education and/or experience. They will have an understanding of the criminal justice system and target population served in addition to strength-based and client-centred service provision, trauma-informed practice and harm reduction principles. An ability to build relationships, and to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and solid case management skills are integral to this role.

The successful candidate will be required to provide:

  • copies of their vehicle registration, driver's abstract, driver's license, $1 million liability insurance, and an assurance of vehicle safety;
  • A current finger-print based criminal record check (within the past 3 months) is mandatory.
