Job Purpose

We are seeking a bilingual, accomplished and dynamic Government Relations & Policy Manager to lead our strategic engagement with government entities at all levels. As a key member of our External Affairs team, you will drive initiatives to shape public policy, foster collaborative partnerships with government officials, and advocate for the organization's interests. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and execution of innovative government relations strategies, ensuring alignment with our mission and business objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the Government Relations mandate for the organization to complement member organizations
  • Drive the political agenda and position of the organization through the appropriate government channel
  • Leverage effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, and relevant industry stakeholders
  • Present at legislative hearings, meetings, and events to represent the organization's interests and build a network of influential contacts
  • Provide proactive recommendations and feedback to stakeholders to address changes in legislation, technical standards etc.
  • Prepare and deliver persuasive advocacy materials, including position papers, briefings, and talking points
  • Lead research on policy issues relevant to the organization's mission and goals, providing recommendations to address
  • Provide informed recommendations on policy positions based on thorough analysis
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and implement government relations strategies that align with organizational goals
  • Provide timely and insightful summaries of key legislative and regulatory issues affecting the organization
  • Lead all related committees to ensure a coordinated effort across member organization

Qualifications & Skills

This role will require a strategic thinker with a strong political acumen, deep understanding of legislative processes, excellent communication and influencing skills, and a proven track record of navigating complex regulatory landscapes. Additional skills and qualifications required are as listed below,

  • Education & Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in government relations and communications
    • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Knowledge:
    • In-depth understanding of legislative and regulatory processes at both federal and provincial levels
    • Understand of the current political climate across all levels of government
    • Familiarity with industry-specific issues, regulations, and trends
    • Strong knowledge of ethical standards and compliance in government relations activities
    • Comfortable working in a MS environment including Word, Excel, Teams, Sharepoint ETC.
  • Communication:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (bilingual French & English is required)
    • Experience in preparing a variety of advocacy materials, including position papers, press releases, drafts, briefings, and talking points
    • Skilled at public speaking and delivering compelling presentations
  • Relationship Building:
    • Proven ability to leverage relationships with government officials, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
    • Strong networking skills to drive the organizations' political agenda
