Position: Quality Control Administrative Lead

Job Description:

Based out of Calgary or Red Deer, the Quality Control Administrative Lead will oversee all aspects of quality assurance and quality control processes, with a focus on mechanical installation practices. While knowledge of electrical principles is required, it is not the primary focus of this role. Occasional travel will be required for this position to visit active projects from time-to-time.

Duties:

  • Develop and implement quality control procedures and protocols for mechanical installation of solar racking, PV modules, and electrical components
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of construction sites to ensure compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and safety protocols
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to identify and address quality issues in a timely manner
  • Establish and maintain documentation for quality assurance processes, including inspection reports, non-conformance reports, and corrective action plans
  • Train and mentor construction crews on quality control procedures, best practices, and safety protocols
  • Utilize computer-based tools and software for data analysis, reporting, and documentation management
  • Coordinate with third-party inspectors and regulatory agencies to facilitate inspections and ensure compliance with local codes and standards
  • Investigate root causes of quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve overall quality performance
  • Monitor and track quality metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices related to solar construction and quality assurance
  • Stays current with industry practices and seeks new and innovative construction methods and initiatives

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Journeyperson certificate, diploma, or degree in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in the renewable energy or construction industry (at least 10 years)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance roles within the construction industry, preferably in solar or renewable energy projects
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical installation techniques and principles, with some understanding of electrical systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve quality issues effectively
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software for data analysis, reporting, and documentation management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Certification in quality management or quality control (e.g., Six Sigma, ISO 9001) is preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations is a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience in construction industry
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to apply engineering principles to construction plans and schedules
  • Thorough understanding of productivity rates and ability to interpret cost reports
  • Thorough understanding of contract language, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks and leverage opportunities
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office and CAD programs
  • Experience using AutoDesk an asset
